Chain Collars Was over by the "Crunch" on Sunset in Hollywood and saw two different guys wearing the same neckwear. A length of chain worn like a collar or choker and fasten in front by a padlock. Looked hot, but is there some "meaning" when these are worn? Looked like these two muscle studs were violating the local leash laws. |

Well I'm guessing it's a sign of masculinity or a very obvious sign that the person is "taken" by someone, like a girlfriend/boyfriend. Though I can't say I'd want my girlfriend/boyfriend to signify it with a chain and padlock :P |

Once again I'd like to put this question out for anyone who might have the answer. When you see a muscle stud wearing a chain choker fastened with a padlock is there any subtext or signal implied? Surely someone who is a member of this forum sports such a collar or knows someone who does. Could you please clue those of us who don't know in? |

It's always been hard for me to identify things like that without talking to the person. I mean it would be nice to assume those things but it could very well just be a tacky peice of jewlery the guy just thinks is cool. I know I'm certianly inclined to think most hot men are gay, but sometimes it just doesn't turn out that way :P |

Originally, in the gay culture, wearing a chain with some sort of lock around your neck meant that you were "taken" and that you and your partner were probably into BDSM or rough sexplay. Perhaps, though, straight culture has now adopted the trend and now it just means you are a tough guy. It sounds like something that big bodybuilders would walk around wearing. |

Thanks for your responses Slevin and TaurusJake. I had hoped for someone who actually wears, or has bestowned, one of these collars to respond. Someone who could say definitely why they are worn and what it's supposed to signal. To see a chain encircling a bull neck and a padlock hanging down between two rock hard pecs makes quite a statement. A statement so strong that it's hard to dismiss it as just a token of fashion. |

Usually yeah, I think it's a master & slave thing. Just ask the next guy you see with one (unless it's somebody passing on the street, cos that'd be a bit odd) |
