A young guy gets a gift (probably an article of clothing or an accessory like wristband, ring, belt or something)... immediately he starts seeing himself, only a future ultrabuff self... usually the older version of the guy is chatting with someone, but onetime when he's followed and alone, the superbuff one talks to him, not only can the young guy see him, but he can see the young guy too!, and gives him everything he needs to become the self he now knows he'll become...) the problem is nobody else can see the other one, so they'd probably think the one they can see is a little... daft... talking to themselves and stuff...

There's a story along those lines, i think possibly in the (offline) story archive -- but I just can't seem to find it now, nor can I remember the title OR the author. I have a feeling you'd enjoy it -- it involves exactly the sort of scenarios you're describing.

Basically, a present-day relatively-average man meets an older guy who (it turns out) is his future self traveled back along his personal timeline. (By way of a Standard Future-Tech Experiment type plotdevice.) He's come back to... basically "encourage" himself to realize his dreams/desires and be less reluctant to pursue the things that'll make him happy, successful... and huge!

As the life/mindset changes ripple backwards through his personal history, BOTH versions of him are transformed as a result. So not only does present-day guy grow more muscular and confident, but he also witnesses the effect those changes have on his future self, whose transformation seems almost exponentially more extreme!

Hopefully someone else will be able to give a useful pointer to the story I'm talking about -- or perhaps its author will see this and speak up? (It's a great story!)
