Brad Pitt in Movie Troy

Just saw a pic in the local paper of Brad Pitt in his new movie Troy coming out next Friday in theatres. He plays an "alarmingly muscular Achilles"

Talk about packing on the muscle! He looks awesome! Take a look at this pic of his yummy biceps!

To prepare, Brad said he had to perform at dozens of ab crunches and bench presses for every one of the thousands of digital extras seen storming the city walls.

Apparently he also goes buck naked in one shot in film.

Speaking of films, I also saw Walking Tall starring The Rock last week. Talk about wow! I love that guy!

He did bulk up for this role. Had problems with legs so they used a body double for those shots.

But the biggest surprise to me was the improvement of co-star Eric Bana--he played the scientist that would become the Hulk. Well, it looks like he didn't need gamma radiation after all; he is pretty hulked out now!

Brad & Eric

Yes Brad is definitely buffed, but I'm not surprised after I saw him in "Fight Club". Come to think of it, he was naked in that one too... I think I'm detecting a trend here. Butt I don't mind, he has a great bod there .
And Eric , YIKES!! this is just plain strange, I just saw the "Hulk" movie for the 1st time tonight on cable. And after seeing him with no shirt on, the first thing I thought of (naturally) was "I wish this guy would hit the weightroom and get buffed up". Now, I come back to this thread and "BOOM" there he is, all buffed up!
I love it!

Maybe I can try this again, "I wish I would wake up tommorrow with a 55" chest, 30" waist, 21" arms, and 30" quads...."

Ah the joys of having to work out in order to look better for your job--and I'm sure the personal trainers the studio probably hired for these guys didn't hurt either!

I saw Bana for the first time (that I recall) in the "Hulk" and thought at the time that he was a little to much of a hunk to play Bruce Banner--but now, wow! Those have to be some of the nicest pecs in Hollywood.

Guess "Troy" is going to be on my "must see" list for summer movies after all....

P. S. Ottomun6--remember the saying "if wishes were fishes...we'd all have fish to eat." But hey, let us know what you see in the mirror tomorrow morning.

I don't know much about Bana, other than the fact that he looks great in the Troy pics, but Brad Pitt is supposed to be an amazingly great person. He learned to fly-fish with Melissa Etheridge & her lesbian friends. Hot, and gay friendly, that's a true star.

It shows how out-of-touch with the real world the media is, that they would consider this "alarmingly muscular." There are millions of guys built at least this good all over the world. Not to take anything away from Brad; good for him for packing on some size for this film, and even more kudos to Bana, who had a lot farther to go!

I just saw "The Hulk" on cable myself; what a bizaare movie! Ang Lee seems to have been under the impression he was making a profound meditation on the nature of evil; but then here comes this cornball animated Hulk, leaping over mountains in a single bound, and it all becomes too ridiculous for words. The only light touch in the whole thing is Lou Ferrigno's cameo as a guard being lectured on the need to "beef up" security.

It will be interesting to see if "Troy" portrays Achilles' relationship with his lover Patroclus accurately, or if, once again, Hollywood chickens out.

news media hype

Bull, I hear ya bud. I remember about a year ago how one of the ESPN shows was making a big fuss about athletes using creatine. It was very one sided, I almost expected to see them pull out torches and pitchforks.
They have gotten so deep into blowing things out of proportion, that it is a rare thing to see un-biased reporting.
I have been shaking my head for years. The only consolation was that I heard a story that Walter Cronkite was very disappointed at the way news is reported now a days. So at least its not just me.

hahahaahahahahaha...I laugh. Heartily, too.
it is impossible for achilles to be "alarmingly muscular." that's how he's described in the Iliad! He's supposed to be all strong and superstar-esque. Gah...
I always thought Brad Pitt was hot, and a cool person. And now he's extra-hot.

I recently re-watched a TV version of "The Oddysey" with Armand Assante. They cast Achilles right in that one; some blond bodybuilder who really looked like a demi-god! Of course it was a tiny role in that, so they were free to not cast a star. I'm sure a buffed-up Brad will be more than acceptable...slurp...

There's an article in the New York Post on our golden boy Brad.

Quote:
Pitt, who turned 40 in the final months of the shoot, welcomed the challenge of living up to that ideal. He quit smoking and launched into a grueling six-month exercise and diet regimen, during which he learned to sword fight and transformed his body into a muscle-bound combat machine.

Musclebound?

Not to question the Post, but musclebound might be overstating the case. Pitt certainly does look like he has packed on some serious muscle though!

6'4" ?

Is Eric Bana really that tall? Wow! Brad Pitt is "only" 6 foot , they usually don't let the leading man look short by comparison. Must have made for some interesting behind the scenes scrambling.
( like putting Brad on a platform )

Hey Bull, we can only hope some of those "reporters" will eventually get tired of "National Enquirer" style reporting. It would really shock me if some of them actually made an honest effort over the course of a couple years to actually train hard and build some honest muscles and prove that it is possible to develop muscles without steroids.

Ottomun6,
I agree, but would that type of solid reporting sell papers? Unfortunately, the publishers seem to think not...

Oh, and concerning the height of Hollywood stars--I've always heard that they usually add an inch or two when stating a stars height. Don't know that many of them myself but I've always wondered if it was true.

I'm having difficulty figuring out the Bana 'phenomenon.' His interview in GQ (prior to the 'Hulk' release) was almost painful to read - as if the interviewer had more space to fill than he could with what he got.

As for height - one interviewer called him a big guy another called him compact. Which is it? A book I read had a publicist stating that he routinely added 2 inches to height and subtracted 3 years from age in official bios.

Pitt definitely looks better in the movie still than in the poster. He's not musclebound but definitely very lean.

I'm still not going to see the movie. They've changed the story too much. As one IMDB viewer wrote "why let a classic story get in the way of a Hollywood blockbuster?"

Pitt's still hot.. Sheesh, he's now 40, and he looks like he's 30 still..
Ah the world of makeup..
Still, he is really hot as a blond, he's like.. Uber fit, blond Brad.. I wish I could add that amount of muscle to my frame in a year.. It's impressive, Hollywood or not.
I need sleep..

About the question: "Why do these media idiots always call anyone with a decent physique 'musclebound?' "

You hit the nail right on the head. They're idiots writing for idiots who can't grasp anything unless it's exaggerated to absurdity.

As for Walter Cronkite being disappointed with the quality of media reporting he was rightfully saying that 15 years ago (or more).

Considering recent reports of the state of the health of the average person in the US (and world). Perhaps there should be a new perjorative phrase "blubberbound" :-(

In one of William Goldman's books, he stated that most male stars are short. He recounted his shock when meeting Stallone for the first time and was staring down at the top of his head.

Heh-heh! well, I knew Sly Stallone was short I heard that back in the 80's but I confess I was surprised when I heard about it.
You know it also surprises me a lot more when I have a general idea of someone's height and it turns out that they were quite a bit taller than I thought. Shawn Michaels the wrestler stunned me (I had the impression he was also 5'8", because he looked so short compared to the other wrestlers. Then sombody announces that he is 6'1" !!)

State of the media

Most of the USA's media has either been taken over by right-wing extremists: Diseny, Fox, ABC; defense contractors: Viacom, NBC, CBS; or companies that sell huge amounts of advertising to Saudi firms that rule over US policy like Kingdom Holding Company: Time Warner/CNN, Microsoft, etc. So it becomes difficult to get descent news here. I listen to Air America quite a bit to find out what the other media outlets don't broadcast (look to my signature for a webcast) or the BBC World Report (available via NPR, PBS, or BBC America) for fairly unbiased reporting. Fox News actually gets their daily talking points from the Republican National Committee each morning, just to show how "Fair and Balanced?" they are! I never understood why the media makes such a big deal about a few pounds of beef. Maybe they are scared that these guys could beat them up if they wanted? The controversy with Creatine is totally ridiculous! The thing against Andro, I don't understand either. Then there are steroids: I understand being against them as a way of cheating for most sports, like pro Baseball or something, but for the Olympics? Didn't the ancient Greeks make deals with the gods to do better? Isn't that the same type of cheating? Then these media talking-heads talk about how steroids go against the original spirit of the Olympics... blah, blah, blah... It's time we stopped watch bad media, and maybe they will go away.

Good points. I don't believe most people realize how manipulative the corporations and media are. It's not the government who are manipulative, it's the corporations that control the media & government. We're way beyond the story by George Orwell "1984", We're fast approaching the world of "Blade Runner" and nobody seems to notice or mind except the old farts and nobody listens to them. It's time the earth needs a good smack from a large asteroid to put things back into perspective.

I just got the new Vanity Fair (one of the few magazines left that isn't a right-wing mouthpiece) and it has an article on Brad Pitt "naked," which he isn't. But there are waist-up shots, and whatever muscle he gained for Troy, he has already lost; in fact, he looks worse than I have ever seen him: scrawny and soft. Very disappointing.

Oh yeah Brent, way ahead of you. I non-officially stopped watching the regular news about 15 years ago (mainly because I couldn't handle all the bad, horrific and downright evil stories they showed) But now and then I accidently look up and see it anyway. I guess that's why I'm so shocked at how they do newscasts now. I usually try to catch PBS or NPR.
LG, I remember Carl Sagen said that all of the bickering and wars would stop the instant an alien from another world were to show up. (of course, even though we would stop being stupid with each other, it would probably be a short time before someone decided to have problems with the aliens)
BULL, say it ain't so!! we need Bad to be as big as possible. Hollywood has too many skinny guys as it is.
Sportyguy, if Brad Pitt got THAT big I'd have trouble thinking about him WAY too much.

Good for you. I am a total addict of Cable news. It started young watching CNN when I was 7, and it has become exponentially worse. I know exactly how bad CNN, Headline News, CNBC, MSNBC, Fox News, and the rest of them are because I watch them like a heroine addict! I just keep them in perspective, and listen to Air America at the same time. I also watch the local news network NWCN, which is quite dreadful, read most of the papers I can get a hold of, and dredge up most everything I can off the Internet. I am a sad, sad person really, and I totally respect anyone that can stay away from all this cooperate B$. I also think I am one of those fancy-pants elitists, the righties always talk about, because I like to read & think for myself. Although I make less than minimum wage?!?!?!? If you can listen to NPR, I have great respect for you, as they usually put my to sleep. My other problem with NPR is that is that they move to the left during pledge-drive, then they move right back to the middle-right after they have your money. Ever notice they only play Noam Chompsky durring pledge time? bugs me too. I way prefer to listen to Randi over anyone else! I might even have to turn bi to be infatuated with her, and her giant brain!
