I've heard that bodybuilding only existed in the turn of the 19th century and beyond, but it was probably big in the Ancient Greece and Roman times (if the art is to be believed)

It would be cool finding a ancient greek painting or sculture showing a muscle greek guy forging discs for barbells, instead of swords

in ancient greece the statues showed the 'perfect vision' of what humans should be like ie the god's body types were something to strive towards
but they were 'gods' so i doubt any actual greeks got THAT huge but some size was definately likely

incidently they liked women to be on the chunkier side (rather than stick thin size 0 models like today) - oh this info applies to athens the further afield you went less true this would be (as religious basis changed and adapted overseas) so that pretty much means the sexiest people lived in athens

sorry for the geekyness there

I cannot recall at the moment the author but much of our knowledge about ancient greece also comes from tales provided in a book called metamorphisis or something of that nature where the guy only wrote down stories where a transformation took place. It seems our little joy is more ancient then one might have thought.

Chunky women were a sign of well fed women... which means they were rich.

Chunky women = sexy

... back then, anyway...
