New Personal Bests I did 1RMs (One Rep Max) with Josh today. The new records are: Bench: 1 x 250 Dead lift: 1 x 275 Squat: 1 x 455 The last one was kinda crappy but I sorta had to stand VERY upright for the bar to clear the stanchions. Still, it counted because I was growling! :-) It's great to make progress, even if it's s-l-o-w! xoxo Richard |

First off, Richard, big kudos. You're really making progress. Second, the squat number is HUGE. I think I need to see a vid. Are you going all the way down to parallel? Yikes! |

And it was close to parallel but not quite. As I said, I was having some difficulty clearing the stanchions (basically I had to stand on tiptoe to get it off the rack) so I didn't go down quite as far as I should have. Josh gave it to me, though, because I growled the whole way! :-) xoxo Richard |

When the bar is racked it should be at about the same height as your collarbone. Certainly not higher than that. So how heavy do you go for the regular, non-1-RM workouts on squat? |

I'm sorta *right* in the spot where if I stand up straight it's a little too high and for it not to be too high I have to hunch down a little bit. Which I don't always realize until I'm already doing it. If it's just me working out (no spotter), I usually max out at about (10 x) 385. With Josh there, I can do 5 x 405. As I recall, in that session I did 10 x 225, 10 x 315, 5 x 405, 2 x 425, and 1 x 455. xoxo Richard |
