I have heard of using technology to get the point across

but I am wondering whether the boffins who created Sony's 3D HDTV TV system aren't just a bit interested in bodybuilding as well

Of course, to get the full effect you need a pair of polarised lenses

Is that Ruhl?!?! Can't tell without my 3D specs, but looks like it could be, at least!

The television divisions of Sony and Samsung have been embroiled in this weird advertising one-upmanship war for years, now... it's certainly produced a few really creative campaigns, on both sides!

(I wouldn't particularly classify this as one of them, however.)

3D tv

This IS the current technological "gotta have it" gizmo!

All the major manufacturers (Panasonic, Sony, etc.) are jumping on this bandwagon to boost consumer sales.

I'm still grumbling over having to replace all my vids with DVDs (from VHS). I don't even WANT to think about Blueray technology, and NOW THIS!!

Too much technology!! (But it IS COOL to watch!)

Sharp's developing glasses-less 3D tech; it's already being used on a small scale in the new Nintendo handheld (which can take a play 3D pictures and video). Tiny, portable 3D musclemen... It's like a certain Rowan series come to life |P''' Who's ready for Nintenhunks?

This is actually an old technology - it uses lcd glasses, flipping on and off between frames, to give you the 3d effect.

A Japanese company came out with several Hollywood movies from the 50s and 80s 3d craze in the format in NTSC on a type of video disc. They were later transferred to tape and dvd and there's a group of dedicated collectors who trade them.

The problem with the old format was that it used fairly low NTSC resolution and was fairly "flickery", since you were getting 15 fps in each eye.

There were two gay porn videos produced in the format (but no straight porn) - one was leather themed, the other more traditional.

I've got several videos, called sequential field 3d, and a rig that will shoot video in the format. I test did a test shoot with a local bodybuilder, but it didn't turn out that great - requires LOTS of light and really hard to align for the right 3d effect.

What did work during the test shoot was great, though. If a decently priced high-def 3d rig in the new format were released, I'd love to do some shoots of bodybuilders in 3d - you really get a sense of mass and size with the depth added.
