For reasons never quite clearly explained, Ed Norton was not available for this. Some rumors claimed he/his agent wanted too much money, others that he had a prior commit.
There may be something about it on his official site.

Some of the gossip rags are saying that Ed Norton wasn't asked to play the part because he made a fuss about the editing of the Hulk movie and then didn't participate in promotion for the film. He's done this before, particularly with "American History X", and has a bit of a reputation for it.

I'm curious how they'll handle the cgi work and if it'll be any better than the other two films.

Yes he does look pretty beefy in that shirt. I still go "WHOA!" when he shows up naked in Fantastic 4.

Ed Norton is a whiny little cuss and I'm glad he's gone. He's a good actor but he deserves to get cut out of the Avengers, even if he had some legitimacy in not liking the released cut of Hulk 1.5.

But Chris Evans has proven himself worthy of hero roles (because of playing Lucas Lee in Scott Pilgrim!) And Chris Helmsworth... has become a GOD. The man should never wear clothes again. Drool!

Chris Evans can ditch the clothes too!
