For me its a matter of when, not if... I'm looking at maybe the fall - the other option seems to be the late spring.
Its hard to decide!

Its similar for me...
I'm trying to decide - I'd actually like to do a spring/fall, but the timing of the actual shows isn't perfect for that except with cross-continental travel. It could add to the adventure, I guess, though!
I'm starting to really refine the diet staring today so I'm going to assess realistic timing by the end of the month.

I had the satisfying moment of being declared "big enough" by the trainer a few weeks ago. Pretty fun...

I started my diet yesterday. My trainer thinks I can make it right to the top of the light heavies. Honestly, he is scared I will come in as a VERY SMALL heavy versus a top size light heavy. Hell, I never would have imagined those words coming out of his mouth.

I am doing my 2nd this year. Did my first in august 2010. Had such a blast and now I gotta do more! Hoping to come in 10 -15lbs heavier than last year. Most likely a late summer show.

We suspect I'll end up mid-170s so I can relate.

First contest this year

I am doing my first contest in November. I am 200lb already, this might be nothing for some guys but for me it is a huge accomplishment. I want to put another 20 pounds from now till July. Then start the diet for the contest.

Actually I've been competing for a few years but won two competitions last year... The Mr Anglia Over 50 and the Novice Britain over 50. Nothing extraordinary about that except that I am now 64 and entering the Midlands Over with the 50 class on May 8th with the hope to qualify for the Britain Finals 3 weeks later. Good luck to you all above. I am well aware of the hard work, dieting sacrifices and show preparation you will put in and hope you all place well.

13.5 Weeks-out today...
It starting to come together. I'm shifting training to a different cycle for the next while, and the diet has come together.
Its interesting how when you diet-down you can actually start to feel bigger.

Well the diet continues...
I'm eating more at this point and on carb-loading days I'm feeling my muscles swell quite a bit.
I'm down a pound from last week.
The eating is literally tiring; a 10 oz chicken breast seems to take forever to get through!

Sure:
Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday - moderate carbs
Thursday/Friday - high carbs (relatively)
Saturday - very low carbs
Sunday - low carbs

6 meals each day... 2 chicken based, 1 fish based, 2 eggwhite based, 1 protein isolate.

The daily calories will decline as the weeks pass. Right now I'm eating more than previously, but loosing about a pound each week.

Its interesting how "full" muscles feel on carbed-up days; its definitely noticable.

The biggest thing that I took away from the show, other than the great people that I'd met, is that the size of your legs and your overall conditioning is what wins the contest. I was the tallest competitor at my show, and I knew that if I wanted to do better, the next time, I needed to improve a lot... but have been focusing on my legs and muscle maturity.

Competition and injuries

BigJoey,
Always interested in seeing pre contest diets. Can always learn a thing or two about what works for some and what might work for me. Not sure if I am going to compete again later this year. Working around a terrible left shoulder injury that has impacted my workouts significantly.
Cheers,
Bulkinupbig

Well its less than 8 weeks out now...
I'm not as far along as I would have liked, but I'm ok with where I've gotten to at this point.
This week I've reached the -20 pounds point from my heaviest. There's probably another 12 to go.
I can feel my body changing daily, which is exciting for sure.
