Funny how the browser history can pull up parts of the site but not the main page or the updates. I've been following "my girlfriend is an animal" love the work that aruther has put into that story.

You're not pulling it up from your browser history.

The individual article pages at CYOC are pre-generated into static HTML for performance reasons, hence the ".../stories_cache/..." URLs. Now that the server is back online, those cached pages are accessible. The main page and updates page are live content, though, driven out of the site database that's clearly still non-operational.

However, since the outlines have also been pre-generated and cached as static pages (with ".../outline_cache/..." URLs), you don't have to rely on keywords to get to the complete set of chapters for each of the Interactives, you just need to find the URL for any chapter in it and then use the Outline link.

(You could also guess chapter URLs at random or programmatically, they're all of the form
http://www.cyoc.net/stories/stories_cache/chapter_$NUMBER.html where $NUMBER is an integer from 1 to 66000 and change with no leading zero's. Or, go from outline to outline using
http://www.cyoc.net/stories/outline_cache/story_$ID.html URLs, since there are only about 3 dozen of those total.)

Also, of course, note that with the database and live pages down, there won't be any new cached content appearing. So the site'll stay frozen where it is now, likely some point not long before whatever catastrophic failure must have occurred in their server.

As an alternative to the above, since it turns out the _cache folders on the CYOC webserver *DO* allow indexing, you can view a list of all of the story outline pages (by number only, so you really have to click on each one to find out what it is) by visiting:

Turns out, they number all the way up to 54, since there are a lot of deleted-story gaps in the low numbers. I was surprised to find the numbering went that high.

It's also possible in theory to visit http://www.cyoc.net/stories/stories_cache/ and get a list of every single individual chapter (again, by ID# only). However, since this lists every one of the tens of thousands of entries in the entire CYOC Interactives database, it tried very hard to crash my browser the one time I made the mistake of trying to load that URL.
