Lex Luthor Pt 10: Titan Triumphs

Lex Luthor's latest plans were never put into action thanks to an unforeseen development in his torture of Superman. A system overload & a power surge in his lab resulted in Superman's body receiving a massive blast of Kryptonite which almost destroyed him. After Luthor brought the system back to normal he picked up the conscious body of Superman & carried him into the examination room. In a way Luthor didn't want Superman to die this way, accidentally. There was no satisfaction in it. Fortunately Superman did survive ---at least his body did. His mind was another matter.

What Luthor discovered was that Superman suffered some kind of psychotic break from the torture & trauma. He believed he was ONLY Clark Kent, with no knowledge or memories of his life & career as Superman---and no memory of his time missing, save for interviewing & meeting Titan. In fact Superman's brain had been damaged & thanks to the "map" Luthor had created those memories were now inaccessible. In addition his brain's "wiring" was damaged--it no longer recognized he had powers made him believe that he was as weak & powerless as Clark Kent.

As for Luthor he made Clark believe that he left after his interview & just showed up again at Titan's secret HQ, his clothes in tatters,collapsing in front of him. "Titan" showed the printed interview to Clark, who then looked up the fake e-mails Luthor had sent in his name. Clark had no memory of is secret assignment and assumed whoever he was investigating did something to make him forget.

Once he was strong enough Luthor sent Clark on his way to resume his "normal" life. The villain knew there was a possibility that he would heal & remember what had happened, setting up another confrontation. In the meantime Luthor was going to make sure that Titan would be the new hero & make Superman irrelevant. Luthor looked in the mirror & remembered he was now stronger than Superman ever was and if he wanted a battle he would get it---to the death.

Luthor also had his insurance: if his powers & muscles ever diminished he had a massive supply of super-serum ready to use. For now that was unnecessary. Titan was about to appear, unmasked, and let the world get a real look at his body.

Fate was remarkably kind to Luthor. While working out in his lair pumping bigger & stronger, his body oiled up (Luthor loved doing that) the news channel interrupted programming with breaking news that a freighter had collided with the Metro Bay Bridge. The boat was sinking fast and the bridge was going to collapse. Luthor wasted no time dashing out of his lair & taking a running leap into the air. It was as close as he had ever gotten to flying and the feeling was exhilarating. His powerful legs were a tremendous boost rocketing him through the air into the direction of the bay. He landed halfway there on the roof of a building and took another running leap off landing on both feet near the bridge's on-ramp.

The crowds, the TV cameras, the helcopters overhead created a scene of added chaos but within seconds the attention was focused on the magnificently muscled figure that stood there, unmasked and ready to save the day. They cheered when Titan dove into the bay and swam at tremendous speed towards the freighter. The cameras and crowds watched in awe as the ship was pulled away from the bridge and was pushed back upright. The figure of Titan emerged from the water in a blur temporarily held the bridge together, his muscles straining, as the remaining cars drove across the bridge to safety. When the last cars were out of harm's way Titan dove back into the water & dragged the damaged freighter to shore. For added dramatic effect Luthor lifted the ship onto his shoulders and held it overhead & setting it down. At that the bridge collapsed in into the bay as a climax to a truly remarkable rescue.

Titan leaped on top of the maritime memorial building and stood there heroically basking in the glory, posing for pictures & videos and smiling broadly. Luthor felt amazing to get all this attention and he soaked it all in, actually flexing with his hands on his hips. Yes, he thought. A new hero is here and you all may adore me now but wait. I'm going to be your conqueror when you least expect it.

Luthor looked down as saw one photographer was clicking away frantically changing positions and trying to get him from every angle possible. Luthor even flashed a few poses for the enthusiastic figure. When he stopped Luthor realized who it was. It was red-haired young photojournalist Jimmy Olsen, nicknamed "Superman's Pal" by the media. Luthor had run-ins with young Olsen before & wondered exactly what he was up to. Luthor & Titan would soon find out and another additional chapter in his revenge against Superman was about to happen.
