My Next Story

I have a few ideas for my next story. Below are descriptions of the type of growth featured in each. Please let me know what you'd like to read next.

  1. Exponential - the body gains mass at a rate determined by the existing mass (so each time the gains are bigger)
  2. Water - Amount of water ingested/absorbed = muscle gained
  3. Muscle Ray/Beam - radiation that transforms into mass, as directed by a computer (capable of almost any transformation, so long as mass is added)
  4. Pump - pump from working out becomes the new "cold" size of the muscle
  5. Theft - an ancient spell that allows you to absorb muscle from those weaker than you
  6. Puberty - an injection that induces an augmented puberty in adolescent males

It's called the MacGuffin, the device on which the plot hinges. As Hitchcock famously observed, it doesn't matter what the MacGuffin is, so long as there is one. Or, for that matter, it can be unnamed (e.g., When I was human...)

What makes it work, whatever IT is, is the story-telling. The description, the characterization, the attendant emotional states (humor, loneliness, whatever.) Pick one and then go for it!

More about the MacGuffin here:

I like the pump, very nice approach and one that is not seen as much.

As to apreejay who I absolutely love chatting with, he used to be a full time librarian so trust him on these things. Such a smarty pants

You should check out TVTropes.org.

I realize these are plot devices and not plots, but muscle growth stories (for me) often start with the growth, and then I build the story around that.

Looks like there's the most interest in the pump story. Thanks for giving me some direction, guys!
