Your Chance of Replies on This Forum Impatience is one of my issues to deal with in this life, so I fell to, as I often do, number crunching. I took the first page of the Muscle Growth Media forum, one of the most active on this site, and divided the sum of the replies by the sum of the views and calculated the percentage of replies. At that time, you had a 0.324 percent chance of someone replying to your post. So? those of you who do, or can, take the time to reply? Thank you. bulkybud |

Well, take that back. Thus far I've started 422 threads so only 89% of my posts have been replies! xoxo Richard |

I have also noticed that depending on where you post seems to affect the likelyhood of getting a responce too. I look at the fact I posted a story and have a thread done in "watch me grow" seems that I get more views in the later, but the former got more responses to it. __________________ Watch me grow at http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/Ragetiger/ I do keep a few other shots in the scraps folder http://www.furaffinity.net/user/ragetiger/ |

Can I just say that I love that you took the time to figure that out? |

I think your chances of getting a reply are based on: 1. Whether or not you're a spambot 2. Whether or not you can use the English language correctly a. Whether or not you have an excuse for using the English language incorrectly. 3. Whether or not you're being a(n): a: wet blanket b: asshole c: psychopath |

I definitely am behind replying it helps get people involved and not just lurk around here although i know we are all nervous on here well most of us. Reply rate compared to started threads: 95.77% LOL i need to start at least a few more topics |
| |||
Let me be the first to say that from 2004-2009, I was a lurker if you could believe that. Now look at my replies and threads and you can't get me to shut up. __________________ Blogger: http://whitepapermusclestories.blogspot.com/ Tumblr: http://whitepapermuscle.tumblr.com/ Wordpress: http://whitepapermuscle.wordpress.com/ |

Well, I'm even more impressed. Cause I have no clue how to use excel. |

Lol sad but true, I think. Many people, like Raven, will lurk for a long time before finally speaking up. But a lot of people have no idea what goes on the forum outside the media and story sections. It's a shame because there really is no other place quite like this one on the net. |
| |||
I'd best reply more then, my own number of comments are woefully tiny. I blame fear of appearing foolish. |
| |||
The math is making my head hurt, but I'm replying. __________________ http://londonboy45.tumblr.com (A place for me to post my stories in progress and other stuff I like) |

For me, I often use the '5-second post a reply' rule. If I can't think of a decent reply to a recently read post within 5 seconds, I don't. This helps me cut down spending too much time surfing the web. |
| |||
lurker / poster who cares its all about fantasy, pleasure, admiration confidence building, inspiration, its allgood fun |
| |||
I don't reply often, but replies can be really helpful since it can be a motivational factor for writers to continue writing, for aspiring bodybuilders to keep training, for artists such as myself to keep creating more art. But yeah, like what others have said... replies would still depend on the post. So I guess it's a symbiotic(?) relationship... __________________ "Stare. Drool. Nosebleed." Ok bulkybud. You're impatient. I'm a nit picker, so here's some quick number crunching and picking of my own. At the time of posting, you've only had 134 posts over the last 8 years (taken from your join date of May 2004). That's an average of 16.75 posts per year, or one every 3.2 weeks. For someone who is impatient, you certainly have long periods between posts! So if your posts are few and far between, what point are you trying to prove here? I'm with nathan on this. Who cares if there is a reply to a post or not? There's also the private messages you haven't taken into account (because, well, they're private so can't be calculated). End nit pick. __________________ Watch me grow! Send a friend request to my Facebook account, and keep up with my progression to a MUSCLE FREAK! https://www.facebook.com/hulk.luke |

LOL nz, I love your honesty. You don't have that problem with me. __________________ Blogger: http://whitepapermusclestories.blogspot.com/ Tumblr: http://whitepapermuscle.tumblr.com/ Wordpress: http://whitepapermuscle.wordpress.com/ |

I was a longtime lurker as well before getting the courage to speak out and express my love for the muscle. But I'm also one who doesn't put too much stock in replies. Having zero replies is a touch of a sting, but just having a few is enough. If the view count is still high, then your doing something right. __________________ Grow big. Grow strong. Grow hard. |

I love comments, and they're probably one of the biggest motivations for me to write stories. I'm a lot less inspired when those thousands of people who red my story don't bother to at least offer any words. It's actually quite sad to see a story with a thousand views and ten comments. That's one out of a hundred people who bothered to reply and say how much they enjoyed the story (or offer constructive critiscim if they did not). Those people who bother to type out a response to their favorite stories are amazing in my eyes |
| |||
I have to admit that a response to a story I wrote and posted is a major upper for me. Replies to threads are o.k. especially if they turn into a sort of discussion of a topic. If it becomes a flame-war, then silence is golden! It would be interesting to see how many of the conversations we have on here in virtual life would occur in real life. Can you imagine standing somewhere, at say, a back yard barbeque or at the office coffee station, saying to someone, "Hey, wasn't Chris Cooper's latest muscle growth story great? Didn't you just want to go out and rub one out? Hey, where you going? Come back!'' ...Hmmm, maybe not! |

However, I think to say that the feedback for posts doesn't matter sort of*assumes that the only admiration/confidence-building on the forum goes to the purpose of building muscle. *The truth is not everyone on here is a bodybuilder or necessarily even wants to be big. When an artist finishes a piece, he doesn't just cover it *up and tuck it *underneath a bed, the same way that* most bodybuilders don't hide the products of their work.* Like dodoria said, feedback isn't the MOST important thing in the world and I don't think it should be the first motivation to work from. (And I should probably differentiate between the posts that share a hot Videos/links *from the posts sharing personal works, progress, or asking questions). But onsidering that not everyone is here to 'get motivated' in the gym, I think its fair to ask people to pay their respects in the form of some interaction. If it's really about confidence-building, admiration, etc., even bodybuilders can't get this without at least a *little feedback.* |
