I am musing the idea of writing a story for Halloween and would like to ask the experts the following question: Is it possible for a man to lift anything over his head, if it is placed on a board? For instance, could someone bench a heavy weight if the weights were spread on a wooden board that was the same length as the person's chest and as wide as from their neck to stomach? __________________ The stronger they are, the more muscled they are |

Getting it above their head would be difficult at first, but depending on the weight they could since it would be displaced across the length/width of the board. |

Seems possible Though I'm not totally clear on the length/width you described I think that with the right balance and control, he would be able to get the weight over his head. He'd likely need to shift his grip a couple times on the way up though. For the purpose of a story, I'm sure it would come across as long as you describe what you see in your head with the most helpful details you can think of. (even if the feat itself is impossible) |

It's a story. You can do what you want! |

I have to agree Yachirobi in fiction the sky is the limit... but in practice (in the real world) the prime question is HOW do you define the term "LIFT"??? You can "support" a great deal more than you can actually "pick up"... And are you required to sablize the weight while "lifting" and "supporting" it... Ender... |
