Probiotics for Digestive Health

Has anyone done any research into probiotics and the benefits to the body?

Is anyone already using probiotics? What are your experiences with it?

I shall be honest and say that I have shied away

and here is the reaso why, In hospital people give you ANTIbiotics to cure you from illness and disease, so why should I have something that contains PRObiotics (i.e does the complete opposite)

I understand the confusion with the terminology, but that's just nonsense. Probiotics introduce helpful bacteria to your gut flora (the numerous types of bacteria that live in your gut that make digestion possible) to - possibly - aid in digestion. Antibiotics are designed to combat invasive, harmful species only (though sometimes they unintentionally kill off gut flora species, too).

As far as I know, the verdict is still out on probiotics. They may or may not help with digestion. But it most certainly wouldn't hurt you to eat more yogurt (unless you're lactose intolerant, or something).

I am reading about how the improved digestive health aids in nutrient absorption and immune health. If it works then I feel its worth it. Probiotics on amazon.com are very cheap so if anything it can be an inexpensive experiment.

Probiotics are good for replacing the natural balance of good bacteria into our system that is lost with medicine, foods with antibacterial properties and not eating foods straight from the garden, or pasteurized and sterilized food. They will aid in digestion, natural probiotics are available in higher quality or homemade yoghurt, kombucha, homemade beer, and cheeses. In America the food is sterilized to the point where many of the beneficial bacteria are removed so probiotics can be a helpful way to get your natural flora back in check.
