Terry Pratchett’s - The Colour Of Magic Just seen they're making a life action version of this: http://www.skyoneonline.co.uk/tcom/news.htm In terms of muscle, early signs aren't good as the big muscular Barbarian is being played by.....Filch out of the Harry Potter films! Ewww! However there's a bit in the book when they meet the tree spirits and the males are described as handsome naked giants with huge muscles which bulge under their bronzed skin like, and I quote, "sacks of melons." It could well be a muscle washout (the casting of Filch is NOT a good sign!) but might be worth a look when it comes out. |

It would be interesting to see who they'd cast as Captain Carrot. You know he'd always pictured someone big when he described the guy by saying 'even his kneecaps rippled.' |

Bear in mind that filch was probably cast as Cohen the Barbarian who is described as being extremely old. He is known for being more wiry than massive. |

Yeah. The illustrations of Cohen, as well as the general descriptions of him and his "Silver Horde," always show him as ancient, small but extremely tough and hardened (but still, err, virile down below). Some definition still but not massive in the least. And it would be tricky to find someone who's buff, extremely old, *and* can act. As said, Carrot or some of the other young characters would be where the beef's at. |

Carrot didn't appear until the 8th book, Guards Guards, unfortunately but that will probably be made into a film soon enough -since it is already a stage play. and the line actually is "even his knees gleam" in regards to how clean and polished he is meant to be. Though, that said, is also meant to be tall and buff. For a Dwarf. As for the big barbarian, he only made a brief appearance at the beginning of the novel as Ankh-Morpork burnt to the ground and Rincewind made his escape with Twoflower and the Luggage. The main barbarian in the tale is Cohen and he is very old but still good at what he does. Think Conan as a geriatric for those who haven't read it. not sure if I'm thrilled by this news, as the whole joy of The Discworld novels is how much your imagination constructions. Oh, well. as long as it's not as bad as the Harry Potter movies, I'll probably go and see it. thanks for letting us know about it, Tanky. __________________ "The One Thing a man must, before all things, keep constantly in his mind, by night and by day, is that he has to die" -Japanese axiom |

There's an amateur discworld film being made as well, down in Australia, I think. (With Pratchett's blessings. :) ) http://www.snowgumfilms.com/trollbridge/ This one has Cohen the Barbarian in both this old and decrepit (yet still butt-kicking) form, and in his hunky young muscle form (played by a former Mr. Australia. :) http://www.snowgumfilms.com/biograph...ge_galati.html ) They've been working on it forever, so I don't know if/when it'll come out. Still, if a bunch of amateurs can get a buff guy to sign up, I don't see why the pros (who pay money for actors) can't do the same. :) |

Think that that might be Hrun from The Colour of Magic though hard to tell with these fan things. and yeah, the reason that it's taken so long is that it's fan funded and doesn't have any government backing, so they keep running out of money to shoot. like the Scottish/English Star Trek film that has been in production for over 4 years if I remember correctly. __________________ "The One Thing a man must, before all things, keep constantly in his mind, by night and by day, is that he has to die" -Japanese axiom |
