Muscle growth on the radio! Yo, I stumbled on something different but cool, which I thought would interest folks here. Last week, BBC Radio 4 started a series called "New Metamorphoses," which takes Ovid's Greek poems and adapts them to modern settings and issues, but still retaining a poetic sound and feel. The Tuesday episode (approximately 45 minutes) was "Narcissus and Echo," and basically featured two parallel plots. The main plot centers on Matt, an insecure young man who worries about his weight all the time (though his girlfriend likes him the way he is). He enters a somewhat shady gym (run by Burn Gorman of "Torchwood") and gradually turns into, well, a Narcissus and goes to further extremes (naturally, steroids or some other "dope" show up). The descriptions of his growth aren't all that detailed except in spots, but it's still pretty intriguing. The subplot involves a girl, in the Echo role, who has a troubled life of her own but finds solace in Christina Aguileraand staring into the unscreened window across the way and gazing adoringly at Matt, watching his mirror ritual and noticing how he grows more beautiful. It's def different and interesting, if a bit tragic. Not the most positive portrayal of bodybuilding but I didn't feel it was anti-bodybuilding either. Matt reflected a type of personality which exists certainly, the self-hating person who if they didn't become obsessive with one thing, it would be another ( maybe guns or Warcraft or who knows). Well acted too, and the language and concept might inspire someone to write a full-on muscle growth story built on the concept (maybe a gym where the mirrors increase your gains; the more you pose and admire, the better you look). You can hear the Afternoon Play online, available for "Listen Again" one week after the original broadcast, so if you're curious, it's best to catch it before Tuesday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/afternoon_play.shtml |

I love the Greeks just for the fact that they'll make you feel all happy and everything is good in the world . Then Crush everything good and happy and make you go "aww why you do that" cause they can but anyway I checked it out and it was pretty interesting __________________ Play nice people. |

How exactly do we get to that file?? |

Just choose the listen again box at the top, for Tuesday, and a new window will launch. It's streaming, and they stay up exactly one week (UK time) after the initial broadcast, so anytime between now and tomorrow around 9 or 10 am would be wise. |
