That's cool because I'm kind of balding at 27... I do like bald guys so I don't care. A lesbian friend of mine was concerned I wasn't going to do anything about it but it's natural, she's not attracted to men so baldness is disgusting for her. Anyway I'll go to the doctor and try to keep my hair as much as I can without compromising my health.

Yes, the regrowth of stubble on some guys with mpb is hot. I have mpb and am shaved, but even freshly shaved, you can see the outline of my hair.

Well I'm not particularly turned on by the big gut. Not when it has no real definition anyway. But what's the problem with bald? Let's turn this upside down and say what's the special deal about hair? It's a hassle to keep clean, it's a hassle to keep neat. It's expensive to make it soft, and it makes real men start to behave like women when they get obsessed with it.

I honestly don't understand what is "the height of masculinity" about being a "big built guy with a gut". That applies to probably 60% of the male population.

--That would be the same population that CDC classifies as "obese"/"morbidly obese"/"in imminent danger of heart attack due to the excess of body fat concentrated around the abdomen".

I think that the point of being built was to look healthy, fit, AND muscular. If you're holding so much bellyfat that you look like "you're 6 weeks overdue and carrying low", that is NOT attractive, or healthy.

Sexy is muscular and fit, like: Arnold in his prime, Frank Zane, Francois Benfatto, Mike Mentzer (the Gold standard!) even some of the huge guys like Evan Centopani (in shape).

Well, see, that's the thing, most powerlifters with guts don't look "due." To me, at least, it gives a sense of power; they look huge, immovable, like a block. If you have a gut and you carry it well, you just look BIG and POWERFUL, and, shoot, I'd love for that to be peoples' first impression of me. *smirk*

As a counter, *I* don't understand the allure of the idea of a huge 80 inch chest and a 30 inch waist (and I've seen that soooooo much in MG fiction); v-tapers can only go so far before they just look abnormal. No one else found the old-style posing with the vacuum weird? That's, like, the other end of the spectrum from a powerful muscle gut.

But, of course, everyone's entitled to their own sense of aesthetic. Just wish more people on here (especially writers) were into big, powerful, guys who carried their bellies well.

Look, it's kind of foolish to ask people to try and rationalize or justify what they find sexually attractive.

Also, it certainly does not describe 60% of the population. Even if you just are talking about pure obesity, very few places have obesity rates above 50%. But this isn't just guys who have extra weight on. It's powerful, muscular guys who have a thick, rounded mid-section. I think you'll find that they make up a tiny, tiny portion of the population --- as small or smaller than big ripped bodybuilder types.

What is attractive is something that is subjective. You cannot make absolute statements like "that is NOT attractive" as if there is a scientific measure of attractiveness that can be objectively measured. You mean, "I do NOT find that attractive," which is a different thing.

But this is where association plays in. Yes sexy is fit and such, but you gotta remember what a lot of people find sexy is power, and strength and brutish masculinity. where do you find that? in powerlifters and strongmen, who really dont care that much about their abs, or gut, or whatever. Which in a way adds to the allure, since they're not going to be as narcissistic (one would assume).

All powerlifters/strongmen care about is brute strength and power, and their attitude is that those bodybuilder types are a bunch of Prissie, superficial, zit-poppers and fake tanners... not real men.

I like bodybuilders, but i also like the big brutish, thick and powerful strongmen (not fat dudes!) and powerlifters. A lot of them look a hell of a lot more healthy than some bodybuilders who look plain ill from all the chemical warfare they've gone through to get their body the way they want.

(OK THIS NEXT PART- not an attack on ANYONE here, just my honest observations)

I think a lot of it has to do with a certain amount of insecurity, too (being honest) people who are very insecure about fat are going to find fat repulsive. People who are naturally very skinny tend to be insecure about being very skinny, and many want to just gain weight in any form... so they just dont care that much about abs are not going to be upset by some fat. And SOME people even fetishize about fatness (THAT I dont understand). I think if i were overweight and unhappy with my body and unhealthy, i'd probably be much, much more paranoid about fat, and would only like lean guys. But since i'm a lean guy, naturally very skinny, I just don't care as much about a belly, so long as its attached to a massively muscular physique. flabby guys are disgusting, but big, brutish strongmen with muscular, but rounded midsections is kinda hot.

To say something like this shows that you don't understand bodybuilding as a sport. Bodybuilders don't spend all of the year looking like they do in magazines and competitions. A better part of our time is spent being gaining mass and size, which negates the ability to have sleek, ripped abs. None of the people you mentioned above -- with the exception of Zane -- stayed in competition shape the entire year! (And Zane was never in the same weight class as the others)

Roid guts are sexy. Beer guts, not so much. But to look at the guy on the top of this thread page and to say he's NOT sexy? That he's not masculine? Because he doesn't have pretty-boy abs?

To each their own, indeed, but c'mon... how can you be attracted to muscle and not be attracted to thick men?

I wasn't talking about Bodybuilding as a sport. I'm well aware that most bodybuilders look like fat slobs in the off season. I was talking about when bodybuilders are in shape, they achieve a look of perfection and balance, like classical greek sculpture.

I was talking about the healty look that men achieve from working out. Think "Vitruvian Man" from Da Vinci. That's SEXY. Bodyparts in proportion, wide shoulders tapering to a narrow waist, indicating healthy proportions. That's sexy.

[Beach ball guts? NOT Sexy! Yes, he looks masculine, but someone who is muscular but still has a huge gut would look so much better (and be healthier) without the gut. Many guys in the general population are muscular with big guts. Their muscle may be more functional, due to their jobs, where they use their arms, legs and shoulders in physical labor. The gut is from eating too much of the wrong kinds of foods, such as an abundance of carbs, or high calorie beverages (beer) to excess. ]

I think this thread shows that like "what is sexy" differs from person to person. Some of us like the classically proportioned, muscular athletic look. Some like a big, burly, lineman/lumberjack look. Some like something in between.

Exactly! I could not put that any better. For me that type of physique is more attractive than a fit bodybuilder's any day. I have no idea why. I just find guts more masculine than a six pack. Sure I find boydbuilders with like 1.5% body fat attractive too, but that guy in the photo above? 100X hotter.

This whole thread is great. Not just for the pictures but the debate it's generated. I remember reading a psych study in Newsweek or Time a few years ago that tried to pinpoint the scientific and psychological factors behind attraction, and they basically couldn't come up with any genetic ones. It's mostly cultural; what one society finds attractive, other cultures might find unattractive. For the most part, we are influenced by what our society thinks is attractive. But that's a sociological force, not a biological one. No one's born with an innate sense of what's hot or not. Maybe thousands of years ago it was, when survival depended on mating with the biggest, fastest male of your species that was available, but that's probably not really a factor in this day and age.
