Platz was a guest-poser at the Emerald Cup back in 198(5?6?) ... anyway he showed up at the gym where I lifted at that time. Each thigh WAS actually bigger around than his waist, this being before the days of forced intestinal overgrowth from HGH. Frankly, he looked shorter than the 5'3" that was his alleged height, not just from being a tall muscular man shortened dramatically - my wife was 5'2" and he seemed shorter than her.

He gave a talk on how he trained and what "supplements" he used. He was forthcoming in admitting that he used steroids, but for legal safety he didn't name them, and said that he used them with a doctor's supervision, which meant that for his uses, they were at least arguably legal. I conjecture it was someone the Weiders referred him to. Anyway, he was adamant about not starting them too early because, while being short was an advantage for powerlifting and bodybuilding in terms of the strength to height ratio, being too short could also limit bodybuilding potential.

The last one is Mike Platz, not Tom Platz. I believe he's Canadian. Beautiful legs.
