Fast twitch Vs Slow twitch I remember reading somewhere that there are two different types of muscle fibers. Fast twitch that provides speed and strength, and slow twich which provides endurance. Is it possible to gear a workout to exercise both or perhaps separatly. Im concerned that most of my workouts rely on endurance rather than developing strength, meaning that i focus on high number of sets more than anything. Does someone actually know for sure about this? |

Recalling from my mind, I think most bodybuilders focus on building fast twitch muscle fibers since it's a lot faster to build and after all, you don't see huge pro. cyclists or long distance runners? Another good mesurement you are not working those fast twitch fibers enough is spending over an hour in the gym. If you had lots of sets, then keep your reps in the set little, i.e 4-6 reps per set at min. 80% of your max. rep. Hope it helps. Keep the weights heavy, but not TOO much or risk getting an injury. |

Fast twitch fibers are the white fibers that bodybuilders want to develop fast twitch is about strength whereas slow twitch is for endurance. A long distance runner will have a greater percentage of slow twitch fibers than a bodybuilder will have. Genetically people are predisposed to a certain higher amount of one vs the other but exercise can stimulate the development of specific fibers. Heavy squats and deadlifts are exercises that stimulate a large percentage of fast twitch fibers, running a marathon requires slow twitch fibers. |
