Recap + Break

As I mentioned in my response to the nice comments about the conclusion of "The Change Continues," I think it's time for me to take a bit of a break. Frankly, I have no idea how long it's going to last. Somewhere between a few hours and a few years, that's all I can say.

I find myself in an unusual situation, namely I go to work each day...and I have just about nothing to do, unless I really want to do it. (That will change in May 2010 when I no longer have the job.) It's pretty damned boring but I'm happy to let them continue to pay me, as they are contractually obligated to do.

About eight weeks ago, I realized I was already bored out of my mind, so I started writing. Here's what I've produced since July 22:

(1) Retrospective (Continuation of earlier story): Chapter 2 + Conclusion

(2) Wow (New Story): 4 Chapters

(3) Jessie's Girls (New Story): Prologue + 5 Chapters + Epilogue

(4) Something Different (New Story): 1 Chapter

(5) Something Else (New Story, Sequel): 2 Chapters

(6) Best Buds (New Story): 8 Chapters + Epilogue

(7) Aisle 13 (New Story): 6 Chapters

(8) Kept Boy (Continuation of an old story): 3 Chapters + Conclusion

(9) Superman Gets BIG (New Story): 7 Chapters + Epilogue

(10) The Nubian Prince (New Story): 5 Chapters

(11) The Change Continues (Continuation of an old story): 5 chapters + Epilogue

I think that adds up to 54 separately posted parts -- and for most of this time (thanks to a pinched nerve in my neck!) I've had three numb fingers on my left hand! :-)

For those of you who have read all or most, thanks for bearing with me. For those of you who prefer a different cup of tea, my pardon for sucking so much air out of the Forum!

I'm really ready to READ now. I've been been enjoying the new stories but there are some other folks out there who have been missing for a while now and I'd really love to see their stuff, too!

All the best & xoxo...

Richard

Thanks, Mr. Prolific!

Vacation: Hours? ok. Days or weeks? You'll be missed! Years? UNTHINKABLE!!!

Wouldn't we all?

And yet it has it's downsides.

Plus it will go away in 8 more months.

I hope you're planning for your next job! The recession and recovery are supposed to be "jobless", so keep that in mind when you are contemplating your career!

P.S. The Federal government is hiring...and hiring... aand hiring! The job process is extremely long and convoluted, but you have 8 months to work on your applications!~ Go to usajobs.gov and get crackin'!!

My next job is:

house husband and gym bunny

I told Naoyuki a gym membership and a personal training package are a lot less expensive than a diamond tennis bracelet and a Porsche Carerra, which is what the typical doctor's spouse gets (well, in Houston, anyway; in Buffalo I think it's a facelift and a tummy tuck, but I don't need those -- yet!)

xoxo

But won't you get bored...and lack self-actualization??

AFTER ALL, if the 1970s have taught us anything, it's that "house slaves" are entitled to a career "outside the home"! You CAN have it all --- a career AND a household! Don't be afraid to "fly"!

Don't settle!!

[Note: For those of you who weren't around in the 1970s, this is a patische, a put-on, a parody of all those "1970s-I-am-woman-hear-me-roar" self actualization tropes. See, "The Feminine Mystique" and other works by authors of the era: Germaine Greer, Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinam, Erica Jong]

Well...

Well, arpeejay, Oakswood is a fantastic story. And the other stories you've recently posted are great too. Although I'm sad to hear Oakswood won't be finished soon, I agree that you have more than earned a rest.

So chillax, and take some liesure time for yourself. As far as our missing authors, I'm currently working on something myself. It's just taking me a very long time to write it. And I'm also considering a new story for Halloween. Maybe Hal the Halloween Fairy will bestow his season's greetings on us again this year.

Anyway, brilliant work on all your recent stories, and enjoy your break.

Ciao,

L_B

Many thanks, Lover_Boy! Please keep in mind that Demandred is the author of Oakswood, not me! I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next! :-)

Whoops...

...My bad! I had finished reading the latest installment of Oakswood just before I read this thread. Apologies to both arpeejay and Demandred for this mistake.
