Body builder credits in muscle magazines Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a trend AWAY from identifying bodybuilders in muscle magazine spreads these days? I picked up a copy of Muscle and Fitness today (Joe Weider's old magazine, which he sold two years ago) and saw Steve Christman [ http://www.myspace.com/Christman83 ]of the prodigious arms and thousand watt smile on the cover. He was featured in an article on using heavy steel chains to supplement your free weight exercises (like Branch Warren uses in his videos when he's performing bar dips). I flipped to the inside cover where the credits are. They list the photog (natch) the setting location (also natch) the groomer (WTF?) but no one else, like, say, the muscle man whose body is featured. Figuring that this was a glitch, I flipped to the article itself, and saw many pictures of the pulchritudinous, heavily pectoraled Mr. Christman in all his toothy glory. Alas, even though the writer (Pencil-neck geek #1) was credited, as was the photographer (Pencil-neck geek #2) and the make up artist, again~~(Pencil-neck geek #2.5) Mr. Christman's name was no where to be found. After some ratiocination, I have come to the following conclusions: 1. M&F are a bunch of "rhymes with 'grassy knolls'" as they seldom credit the bodybuilder, unless s/he is so famous they don't need the id;OR 2. Mr. Christman is not yet famous enough to merit any posting of his name, and he is thus on the level of the typical "exercise demo model"; OR 3. Hopefully, "they" are saving Mr. Christman for a future issue, after he wins a major competition, when they will bring him out as if he is Athena, springing full born from the brow of Zeus; OR 4. I'm full of S**t and shouldn't be wasting my time with these thoughts! Mdlftr Last edited by Mdlftr; November 15th, 2009 at 03:19 PM. |

I can see how that would be pretty aggrevating for the cover model, even most of the automotive magazines I read have decent credits, especially if there is a cover model and/or vehicle owner on the cover. |
