Who's the fittest person here? A friend of mine from Hawaii who is an NCO in the US Army was telling me yesterday that he scored 285 on the Army Fitness Test, but that he would not be satisfied until he scored more than 300. As I come from the UK, I asked him to explain it and I think it's something we Brits should explore (and so have decided to write to my local MP and sugest it) however, would like to know if it holds fire. Therefore, to see if it does (and to promote a little friendly rivalary in the run up to Christmas) how do people feel about taking part in The EF.com Fitness Challenge The actual tests are very simple:
Once you have done all that, post that info as a reply to this with your age. I shall then refer to the tables published online and determine your overall score (and whether the US Army wants you or not). Hopefully if enough people answer, we can have a bit of an awards ceremony before Christmas and declare a winner by age group and an overall winner as well. __________________ The stronger they are, the more muscled they are |

throwing modeesty into the wind, I vote for myself as biggest & strongest. |

Don't look at me, I'm still round |

In the sit-ups portion of the test.... Is it how many you can do in 2 minutes, or how many you can do to failure? |
| |||
Excellent question. One which demands photographic evidence no doubt :3 |
| |||
hmmmmm kinda depends on what you define as physical fitness. |
| |||
Oh I quite agree. Doing as many push ups and sit ups within a small amount of time and running two miles as fast as possible does a true test not make. Honestly, some people really can't do two miles, not because of a lack of fitness, but they simply are sprinters, and running two miles might be a bit beyond them. __________________ In the MGS FC's I am Psycho Mantis! To the military though, I do believe it is quite important that you are able to run 2 miles. |

And how many days do we geezers get to run the two miles? The other two are likewise out of the question!!! Mike __________________ --It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change. Charles Darwin |

Being that I am still in... I still have to deal with the APFT on a regular basis. As Drew stated, there is a proper form for both sit-ups and push-ups. Here are some vids that show them: Push-ups: Sit-ups: Honestly I don't think it is a good indicator of physical fitness. If we followed our credo of "Train like you fight", we would do rather different events... like sprinting with our full battle gear and weapon. Oh well, the army is always slow to change. |

Yes, we do that in the 4ID as well... but what I was saying is that it should be a tested event instead just part of our daily fun. |

Tested myself this morning. Push-ups - 50 Sit-ups - 35 2 mile run - 14:07 |

I can still recall my best time on this run when i was enlisted. 16 minutes flat. i had to have a 15:36 to pass, even thou i had enough situps and pushups to make up the 300 total points it wasn't good enough for them (they could give a brown-noser a few extra situps and pushups to give them 300 but wouldn't accept a slow runner that had 300 total) The thing with this is you had to have the 100 points in each of the three tests or you fail. Even if all three tests totaled 300. It really needs to be overhauled. Some of the people that were in my cycle couldn't even carry 50lbs. but yet. . . you get the idea. I should had gone Navy, i did go though the NJROTC program in high school afterall. Least it's not the Marines, they have a 3 mile run! |

And how old are you? __________________ The stronger they are, the more muscled they are |

Gogalicious's Score Push-ups - 50 = 76 points Sit-ups - 35 = 57 points 2 mile run - 14:07 = 96 points Total Score: 229 __________________ The stronger they are, the more muscled they are |
