Jersey Shore - Muscle http://www.mtv.com/shows/jersey_shore/series.jhtml Haven't seen this posted yet. The media uproar about Jersey Shore got me interested so I decided to watch the first two episodes. Three of the four guys on the show are packing muscle. And they come in three sizes and varieties. You have the lean atheletic type to beefy muscular type. And they are usually flexing, in tight/sleeveless shirts or in the hot tub most of the time. The cast photos don't do two of them justice (Mike & Ronnie) |

Jay Leno made a joke about this show last night (12/10) about how some people allege it's derogatory to Italian-Americans and perpetuates stereotypes about them all being mobbed up. Course, then [wink, wink] "It wud be a tarrible shame if anything was to happen to the producers" (like a horse's head in their bed) [nudge nudge] You know Jay Leno...he does a pretty good guido imitation! |
| |||
I like the show Being from Philly and a 'guido' myself....well an Italian American.....who spent many a summer on the boardwalks of Southern Jersey and at the Jersey shore, it is an accurate portrayal of the culture at the Jersey Shore. The male cast members are very nice to look at!! |
| |||
I hate that show. I also hate the guido stereotype. I'm sorry, but I don't get how anyone can find arrogant guys like that attractive. They're huge men, with disgustingly greasy/gelled up hair. They always make the same poses for pictures while wearing lip gloss. They always wear ridiculously tight clothes. They the type to wax/shave every follicle of body hair on their person, as well as adorn themselves with gaudy jewelry. To each his/her own, I suppose. |

What makes a "stock" character funny.... Quote:
....SOMETIMES, the "stereotypes" have a ring of truth: Some Italian-American guys ARE "super Macho" ( or what THEY think is "super macho" -- building up their muscles, flexing, strutting around like cock of the walk, wearing gold chains, being sexist towards women, and hyper competitive towards other guys, and being TOTALLY CONVINCED, that they are "all that"! ) As entertainment, shows like this allow us to blow off a little steam and have a good laugh! I seem to recall another thread on this forum that talked about very specific steroid use in the North Jersey, Long Island area, where the focus was on developing huge upper bodies at the expense of everything else, the better to display gold chains and wear tight shirts! Gotta love it! Mdlftr |

Ronnie's kinda hot.. but once any of them opens their mouths it's all over.. and i love the jersey accent on guys as much as the bronx/brooklyn one.. such a shame they're all just as high maintenance as the stuck up girls on that show... |
| |||
"High Maintenance"? Pardon me for asking, but how can "Nawth Joisey" guido be "high maintenance"?! I thought he was all about being into himself and was self-maintaining! Don't tell me he needs other people for anything other than gushing adoration: "Oh Tony, you're such a stud! Flex for me!" Etc. etc. ad nauseum..... |
| |||
It's just the same in Italy. The streets are full of men standing around posing. They are totally sexist toward women. They may not have a pot to piss in, but they have great clothes, jewelry, cologne. They are completely full of themselves. And...I pretty much loved it! |
| |||
Guys like that are attractive.. . as long as they stand still and don't open their mouths! __________________ Hulkoutlvr |

If I were Italian I would be embarrassed by them but, since I'm not, I think they're funny and totally hot. Honestly, I'd rather see them than the usual rich WASPs that pass for reality TV these days. |

exactly!... |

This show will launch in the UK on March 21st and I would like to know: a) were the allegations of negative stereotypes correct? b) does it reflect the culture and society of New Jersey state? c) Do any of the people in the show enter any contests? __________________ The stronger they are, the more muscled they are |

I can try to answer the first two questions. a. the stereotypes obviously seem quite negative but evidently are not bothersome to the types of people depicted in the show, which surprised me. I was expecting outrage from the Italian-American community but it hasn't occurred. b. you will see that 7 of the 8 people on the show are not from New Jersey. They are from New York, Rhode Island, and maybe one other place. But the Jersey Shore is a string of beach communities perhaps one hundred miles long that attracts millions of visitors each year, especially during the summer months. Many of those come from New York and Pennsylvania, bordering states. New Jersey is a very diverse state in terms of its ethnic mix, the result of a lot of immigration from abroad and from other states. For some reason, the media in the US likes to depict the Italian aspects of the state while ignoring the rest. It is almost always first or second (with Connecticut) in per capita income among all US states, so clearly has a lot going for it. Can't answer the third question as I only briefly watched the show. I didn't really enjoy it and couldn't relate to it. |

Like a train wreck, its hard to look away When I was trapped at home during the snowstorms in the Northeast, I started watching the show online and watched the entire season in a few days. fficeffice" /> I grew up in ffice:smarttags" /> To add to the answers above. a). As with most stereotypes, there are people that fit the mold perfectly. They do not see this as negative because it is what they think. There is outrage in the Italian-American community and they tried to get the show off the air, but like many things MTV is making a boat load of money and the few people that complain are not paying them to take it off the air. b) No!!! The beach town where I spent my summers is a family town with no clubs or much of a night life to speak of. Most of the beach towns on the Besides, if you listen to all the stereo-types about Jersey, it is just oil refineries and swamp...just like If you don't bother to get off the highway or break away from the TV and look around, then the negative (or false beauty) is all that you see. c) The people in the show are EVERYWHERE. The Situation guest bartends around the country and I have seen promos for many of the others. If you are referring to bodybuilding, then that would require a lot less boozing and late nights. It is all about being pretty until death?or marriage, whichever comes first. |

A couple of non-stereotypical things about New Jersey since I live there: - 2/3 of the land in NJ is either forestland or farmland - NJ has more horses per capita than any other state (HQ of the US Equestrian Team) - NJ is among the top ten states in production of the following: tomatoes, celery, peaches, wine, dairy products, nursery products, cranberries, blueberries and eggplant True, NJ does possess the "lovely" New Jersey Turnpike (among the safest highways in America according to the US DOT), oil refineries and Guidos, but anyone who truly visits the state will discover the diverse terrain and beauty in such a small land area - I live in the northwest portion of the state and it's beautiful here. All this does not make up the "Armpit of America" (that's Long Island lol). |

I freaking love my garden state! __________________ Play nice people. |

Don't live in New Jersey, but I went and visited down by Princeton once and it was some of the most beautiful countryside in the entire USA. Sure, once you get up near Newark, it got a little... iffy... but much of the state is really nice. __________________ I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I will not grow up. - Frank Turner |

Ugh. I hate to report on Jersey Shore but, let's be honest, the JS men are some hot fuckers. TMZ (who I hate even MORE than JS) reports that two of the cast members, Ronnie and Mike "The Situation", got into a fight. The fight doesn't matter but what I can't shake are the photos. The first is just of the Situation going into his apartment, looking sheepish and bruised up. The second, however, is what has me fired up. Ronnie, who I never paid attention to before, looks like he's on fire! Maybe it's just knowing that he got into a fight a few hours before but he's wearing that tank top and his arms look like they're flaring and he has that expression on his face that makes me want to fuck him blind. Have a look: http://photos.tmz.com/galleries/jers...wl__zoom_view# (Go to pic 2 to see Ronnie in his glory.) Despite all this, let me stand firm in saying that just because I find the photos hot does not mean I condone violence on anyone, especially not your roomies. Nor do I advocate that anyone should watch Jersey Shore. Just check out the screencaps and save your brain cells. Last edited by Yachirobi; May 24th, 2011 at 08:45 PM. |

First I thought: Huh? His arms are flaring and you want to fuck him blind? But that's just Russel Crowe with Mecurochrome on his face?! Oh, wait, what is this at the bottom? 1 of 2? My goodness and here I thought the next pic would be that blonde woman. Let's click next. "Click" YouTube - 2001 A Space Odyssey Opening Yes, realisation indeed dawned upon me and on other places. (Music goes with both). Embedding is disabled so play in youtube and yes totally one of my favourite books and movies of all time. Damn this third edit, damn it all to hell. YES, I did not read the preceding post with as much attention as I should have, but what the fucking hell I am not perfect and I am tired, so if you want to make a massive issue out of this, kindly give me your cell phone number so that I can forward it to some sex starved stalker that can give you the attention you so rightly deserve. I have no idea WHY I just typed that, in fact I have no idea why I'm typing this. It's confusing, I don't get out a lot and that weird smelling incense really does a number on me. Lord I am ready to go... what?! 21 October, r u serious? Damn I thought the old geezer was one or two days out! Damn, I quit my job on Friday. #ThatsFuckedUp Wait, is this Twitter?
