speedos?

hi guys,

don't really know where to post this, but here goes. i've joined a gym with a pool, i love swimming but problem is they require speedos for all men, no shorts or trunks, they claim its a bacteria issue. Do any of you guys wear speedos to the local pool? do you think it's a big deal to wear a speedo if you don't have that perfect swimmers body? or should i just deal since it's a rule of the pool?

thanks guys

I would say just deal, but if you're worried about it, pass by the pool a few times through the day and see what other swimmers are doing. My guess is that you will see a full variety of body shapes in speedos because the rule is the rule and you can't let your current shape prevent you from getting the shape you want.

As helliot suggests, regardless of what shape you're in you should feel comfortable in a speedo, it's almost normal attire for lap swimming, even at the local Y I swim at. Now maybe the physique bar is set a little higher where you train but why would anyone judge you, particularly when you're just sticking to the dress code?

Not that I don't get where you're coming from, when I first started swimming at 240lbs with a 44"+ waist I reluctantly chose to wear a speedo because it was practical (for toting, decreased swim drag and drying out), but check out what that kind of motivation does for a body (this is me 5 months later): http://www.realjock.com/eagermuscle

I lived in France for two years where they obsess about this supposed bacteria issue, and my fellow American friend, who has a good body but was self-conscious nonetheless, discovered boxer-brief speedos were sheer enough for the pool police but concealing enough for his sensibilities. Maybe that solution would work for you (and your pool)?
