Knee Question

My right knee feels a bit odd and I'm not sure if I should try and do much for any leg exercises this week. I showed up a couple days after doing a 6 rep set of leg extensions for 155lbs per leg, then going to my retail job the next day and working a full shift in shoes that are giving out and walking for a few miles over a variety of surfaces in the same shoes a day after that. I can walk, climb stairs, sit, stand up, ect with out any pain, although if I lean on that knee, I can feel a little odd pressure. Should I try and do any leg work this week or next, or should I just cut the weights way back for a short period of time?

internet disgnostics are worthless.. I'd play on the side of caution, let it rest a few days. and then eliminate the exercise that hurts my knees. many good other quads exercises out there.

Proceed with caution, but if things get worse go see a physical therapist, or a doctor who specializes in extremities. Many chiropractors are trained to work on knees--call around and find one that can deal with your problem.

A little extra knee fluid is not unusual

When you start doing something new, such as intense core training, etc, it is not unusual to have a little extra fluid build up in a joint (such as a knee). If you had injured it in the past it is even more common. Sometimes an elastic knee brace will help, but do not wear it all the time! You need to strengthen the joint. Shoes will factor in but we're also barefoot a lot more in the summer which might not be helping. Don't push it super hard, but do exercise it. If it continues to bother you or feel worse by all means get to a doctor. They can drain it or give you a shot of cortisone to help reduce the fluid buildup. If it comes to that, find a PT and get some supplemental exercise to strengthen it. Good luck! PS: Don't neglect your other training because of the knee.

A few things to be noted. First when working out its not the weight but the form that ciounts also the biomechancis of the exercise. your shoes do have something to do with your knee but its more your body mechancis that will determine how your body responds. If you are feeling pain then the first step is to take a over the counter antiinflamitory then back off the weight a little and give it a chance to heal and recover. from what you wront it sounds like a mild strain .If you dont understand the biomechancis part of what i am talking about hit me back and i will explain

I understand what you're saying Joey, I do normally take a couple Motrin before hitting the gym anyway and have gone to using some of a spearmint based relaxer from one of those "Body" stores as well for now. I did go lighter, with the exception of Leg Curls, Dead lifts (actually went a bit heavier than normal tonight) and Squats even though I shouldn't have I probably should have stretched first before going that heavy on leg extensions, but forgot to

I've had something similar. For me it was a matter of my quads growing at uneven rates on the same leg and also on different legs. I switched to doing high rep / lower weight leg presses for a few weeks and that helped quite a bit. Ask BIGJOEY to give you a high rep leg workout.

Thanks, Drew. I did get a new pair of shoes which helped way more than expected. Unfortunetly, the humidity seems to make it tight from time to time though......
