Talking Have you guys countries have something like this?

In Thailand there is Katei or so call ladyman in English ;a man who like other man like gay ,but there is some different that we gay's appearance look like a man but for Katei ,he will try his best to look like woman. I don't know why but these Kateis always have some talents that not like other people. This for example. What do you think? For me at first sight I confess that I really don't know that he is a man. (and I really love his BOTH sounds)

In the United Kingdom, Matt Lucas and David Walliams have a comedy series called "Little Britain" where they have two characters who are both men but dress like Edwardian ladies yet deny they are men, the catchphrase being "I'm a lady!". These characters have been used in a recent advert campaign by a UK building society.

I'm guessing that Katei is Thai for "drag queen." If I am wrong, please correct me.

That said, the only person that comes to mind is Rupaul.

I guess it's just a cultural difference that keeps those people from being what we consider transsexuals.

I'm with Mad Dog. She's what we would call "transgender." Honestly, though, I'd never have guessed she wasn't a cisgendered female if she hadn't used her male voice.

In Thai land, there is a third gender understood as katei. They are men who dress and fuction as a woman. They are fairly accepted and fairly well tolerated. It actually seems to be common in the South Asian area as both India and Pakastan appear to have a third gender option in their passports or state ID.

There is no true equivilent in the west except perhaps for the ancient eunuchs. I don't think the societal roles were the same though.

Anywho, let me also note that most of my knowlege of this comes from Wikipedia. So, take it for what you will.

Let's not forget that famous British show: "Monty Python's Flying Circus", and the famous ladies, played by John Cleese and Eric Idle, who would always declaim, "I've had a b*tch of a day!" Any American Pythonite can always get a chuckle with that routine.

Still seems more like a cultural difference than a true difference between that and a transgender.

When I traveled to Thailand in the summer of 2010, I was told about these "lady boys." In fact, my host father pointed out several during my stay. Supposedly, Thailand has more Thai men than Thai women. There is a significant gay/trans-gender population within the country. (Something close to 18%, if I remember correctly) The Thai people are very accepting and tolerant. I witnessed several international gay couples while I was there.

Even though I am gay, I never really understood the whole transsexual thing. However, a close friend of mine has been a transsexual. I have learned more about it, and I support him nonetheless.
