Question Pre-workout Nutrition

Okay, so at the moment I'm not taking anything preworkout except a teaspoon of L-Glutamine. I'm a little wary of researching this on bodybuilding.com because I feel like some of the supersite is a little skewed in order to sell more supplements. So I'm asking you guys, what's the best stuff to take pre-workout, if anything?

The most important pre-workout nutrition is to make sure that you have had a good meal about 2 hours previous to your workout. As far as supplements I like creatine before a workout.

I try to eat prior to working out too, even if I have to snack on a chicken sandwich while on the job (not easy in a weather retail job this time of year either BTW)

Taking some L-Arginine may help also because it is a precursor for Nitric Oxide (NO). NO is a vasodilator that is created by your body almost all the time and is very important for many many functions. Taking some before working out can help bring more blood, thus more oxygen and nutrients to your muscles while you work out.

I haven't taken creatine before but I've learned from classes that it can help while resistance training but not as much for cardio.

Caffeine is also a decent supplement to take, but the fact that the body adapts to the levels consumed rather quickly, it isn't suggested for the long run and in fact, many supplements that contain caffeine suggest that you go through it in cycles to let your body come back down from it.

When training to grow, I take 1 scoop whey and eat some rice crackers.
During workout, I drink 1.5 scoops whey, Creatine, L-Glutamine and some orange juice in 1.5L water (yes.. I sweat a lot, but it also helps in pushing nutrients to muscle cells).
post , I'll have 2 scoops whey and some more rice crackers.

mate if im honest as long as u have a protein shake and maybe a green tea /black coffee for stimulant u dont need anything else

why u taking l glutamine before when its a recovry supplement so post workj out or before bed so ur body can heal

post work out drink should be quick carbs, protein, l glutamine, bcaas, and slow carbs like oats etc

supplements are all bull shit mate and try and make it complicated just do it nice and easy
as for during workout just use water all the crap about using nutrients to cells and losing muslce mass etc etc u body will just use carbs as energy.

just my thoughts and it works for me but u have to use what works for u

Glutamine must be in your system, for the Leucine-rich post workout drink I take, to work. Activated mTOR = good..

If you are taking creatine, pre-workout is the best time, creatine works best if it is in your system before a workout.

Agree with what's been said, eat a decent meal 2 hours prior to workout, creatine 30 mins before workout with caffeine, you'll find both in most pre-workout drinks.

You can use dextrose during workout mixed with water to give a boost of energy and keep glycogen levels up.

Best rule of thumb is to steer clear of the supersite and head straight to the forum. Bodybuilding.com will always be a supplement site, and try to sell their supplements. At least in the forums, there's none of that and people tend to give good advice.

I workout fasted, generally. I might quickly down some creatine before, but for the most part I take in nothing other than water, some amino acids, and the occasional pre-workout.

Before doing any workout we need some healthy nutrition for energy. I think it is good to eat fruits before any workout. Fruit juice is also a good idea. Protein shake is also best nutrition drink before doing any workout.

Hi,
Instead of taking supplements before work out, eat carbs. Whether you're engaging in aerobic or anaerobic activity, foods rich in complex carbohydrates, such as whole-grain pasta, rice, and bread, and fruits and vegetables, are the best sources of energy.

I usually eat a piece of fruit, a heaping spoonful of peanut butter, and I drink a pre-workout like Optimum's AmiN.O. Energy with a spoonful of creatine mixed in. That seems to last me throughout my workouts and it's light enough that I don't feel like I'm going to vomit it all up while I'm pushing myself.

1/2 cup of cream of rice (dry measure)
1 tablespoon of almond butter
1 scoop of whey protein isolate
2 tablespoons of hersheys sugar free syrup

You can mix the ingredients in a bowl and microwave-- I'd have the whey protein separate as a shake-- because heat can denature the protein. This is one of John Meadow's recipes and works really well. The cream of rice is really easy to digest as opposed to oats which are high and fiber and will have all the blood rushing to your gut during your workout. You want the blood rushing to your muscles.
