Thankfully the guy he hurt healed without any side effects. It scared him. After that he knew when to quit, except when he would challenge me then he would keep it up until I begged him to stop. Then one day I picked him up off the floor, pressed him over my head and threw him down... that day he realized I was stronger than him and he gave up challenging me.

He was beating men in strength contests by the time he was 17 and could have earlier than that, but never bothered to try. He had been lifting for 5 years by that time and was about 225. Older guys watched him in the gym and were always commenting on his strength for someone so young. He was 19 when he broke the guys arm, they were arm wrestling. The guys arm was 3/4 way down and he had locked his elbow trying to tire my brother out. My brother just pushed quickly and hard and the guys arm snapped.

I agree that failing to accept contradictory information is quite human, but it seems the idea that people with high school educations are somehow wiser and more knowledgable about the world than people who have education beyond that level, that's something more recent, unjustified, and almost always wrong. Is there any other country where the voters think that more education means a person is less knowledgeable and less wise? That idea is a uniquely American modern right wing political idea, and it's dangerous to our society's well being, and because of our global influence, maybe even a danger to the world.

Please forgive my off topic rant. This is just a topic that both fascinates and frustrates me.
I did recently read a book on this topic called The Believing Brain, and I found it offered some potentially good scientific evidence for why our brains work they way they do. It's a very dry read but the information is quite good.
