The Southern Werewolf

I'm considering publishing this series, so I'm afraid I have to remove it. Sorry!

You may get your wish, Richard. This story begins with the tantalizing Roman numeral I, but does not seem to contain a II. After consulting the rules, I believe this obligates the author to continue further installments.

Arroooooooo! Awesome storytelling. Maybe a bit confusing at the beginning, so many characters, but once we got outside it was perfect.

Thank you! I'm glad y'all enjoyed it.

(Important note: real Southerners don't say "y'all" nearly as often as Paula Deen does.)

And yes, I've begun sketching out Roman numeral II. I'm hoping to keep this series going throughout the fall. It'll have a much more complicated plot than Power Tie, but I trust it won't be entirely unwelcome.

Awooooo.

Hmm! Points of congruence:

(1) Naoyuki and I spent last week in Birmingham (Homewood, to be precise) helping his parents sort through stuff -- they're moving back to Japan after 28 years in the States!

(2) On Saturday we drove through (past) Leeds on our way to visit my relatives in Munford.

(3) When I was an undergraduate I spent 3 semesters at Vanderbilt before I realized I was wasting my time and everyone else's money.

(4) I grew up in Pensacola, which is the next significant city east of Mobile.

So, yeah, this one resonated in multiple ways! :-)

xoxo

Mobile's a beautiful town. I love the accent folks have there. I decided to set it up in Birmingham, though, since the hills of the Lower Appalachians are very scenic. I also tried to include a few stereotypically "Southern" things (like Vanderbilt) to emphasize the setting.

You didn't happen to see any silver-daddy muscle studs while you were over there, I hope?

Beautiful story, the superlatives are well earned. I admit to being concerned about Walter's father and what became of him. You know my middle name is Walter, and I had a vivid "wolf" dream this summer - that old devil moon, she still calls to the wild at heart.

RPJ - Vanderbilt? That explains so much. I am a Nashville boy - born and bred. I knew we had a connection that went beyond our fondness for muscle. You are a southern boy at heart, I'm sure. Southernsuitor, you just keep making us say "he's good people" because of your writing and everyone will be happy. And you know, when Big Daddy is happy - everybody's happy! I'm just sayin...

Yes, I'm still working on "A Walk in the Park." And yes, "The Southern Werewolf" will be a series. Stay tuned.

I chose "Walter" since it sounds sexy when said with a Southern drawl. Funny how many werewolves have come out of the woodwork!

"Yes, we like you, we really, really DO!"

Southensuitor,

For a story that has generated now 24 responses, that tells you you're on the right track! You've definitely started something here with southern werewolves bulging with muscle. Talk about taking the whole transformation theme to new extremes!

When I read this story I kept being impressed with how you took your previous themes and expanded on them, taking the story to a new level. Your typical "grosgrain patent leather pumps" "spicy cologne" "custom tailored tux" and handsome, fit, protagonists were all there.

Then you added the whole Southern atmosphere thing: the accents/drawls, the hot, sticky, humid air, the restored plantation as a setting, the giddy southern bride with her cast of thousands attendants (I've seen a few of those! 'Nuf said!)

After that, you layered on the "mysterious, handsome, muscular host" [Hello Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre, Hello Mr. Roark from Fantasy Island] and the mysterious birthmark on the back of our hero's neck. Oh, yes, BTW, I DID notice that our host was NOT wearing socks! [cf. my story "The Model" and our discussion about sexy sockless versus sexy socks!]

Then you added the whole missing /absent/dead father due to a mysterious accident theme...

...and post transformation muscle growth on top of it!

This story just had so much going on, and the muscle growth was right in there! Amazing job, and my congratulations again on a wonderful read! You've certainly elevated the playing field here on the Evolution story Forum!

Thank you!

and yes, it bears repeating....

"We really, REALLY like you!"

Mdlftr

Yes, I do recall our sockless loafers conversation, though there's a bit of a pragmatic reason for it here: one less layer to take off when Beau TFs. And I tried to imply that these werewolves have to feel some kind of contact with the earth. They're simply not at home in urban environments. It's much easier to go barefoot when they're sockless. And the whole sockless look is a Southern thing.

I must admit to feeling an embarrassment of riches as I read over all this praise as I compose the next segment. But I must also admit that there are far worse kinds of embarrassment.

Thank you so much!
