Does the modern post boomer generation not get the concept that using the flag to enhance sex appeal is inappropriate. Wearing a foriegn flag maybe but your own, is the concept of showing respect for your own flag different today. I was taught decades ago in Illinois that the US flag was not to be worn as clothing nor was it to be flown after sun down. I guess I need to either get over it or find out what the new rules for showing respect are. Anyway I don't trust anyone who wears our flag with speedos for a photoshoot to teach me about the Christian religion. Can you imagine any of the apostles etc posing in speedos with a Roman flag for a fresco in Herod"s palace and then chugging on his floor length robe and then talking up Christ in the Book of Acts. The concepts don't jibe unless your high. Or maybe the concepts behind things just aren't important anymore, that's depressing.

I'm not quite sure what you're expecting here. Him fervently refusing to pose with the flag draped on him and not get paid? If you're looking for someone to point a finger to, try the modeling agents or photo crews, who actually draft up the props used on a photoshoot.

I've always felt national flags are symbols, first and foremost, of governments/militaries, not of people... and that they're also symbols of nationalism, not of peace with your fellow humans in other parts of the world. And, frankly, I'm no hippie. No matter what your take on your own government is... the reality is that national flags represent dictatorships and republics alike... so to foist so much regard, honor, and respect on them is a bit of joke, in my opinion. Ultimately, they're a symbol of a government, not really a people.

Identifying Matt Medrun as a fine example of a sexy American male, via draped flag symbolism, should be not be taken as an affront.

Of course, one could respond with a bunch of 'how dare you disrespect your soldiers?!?!' or similar, but one should also consider how offensive that reaction is... as there are plenty of other people who sacrifice much daily for their fellow man and they don't kill in the name of their government. I mean no disrespect to soldiers, but the reality is their sacrifices should NOT be placed above the worthy sacrifices of others... and I'm really starting to get tired of Americans (and I'm an American, by the way) doing that, as it's a massive disrespect to others who do so much for us (and are NOT soldiers). Let me be clear that I don't devalue what soldiers do for us; I'm just arguing that it should be put into perspective, as the reality is... that if we were directly attacked, most of us would try to defend ourselves the best way we know how, right?

I hope you understand it's likely better to keep your criticism of a lack of flag adulation to yourself, and not get upset simply because others don't share your flag adulation. I believe it could be successfully and convincingly argued that such criticism is both ridiculous and offensive... but you're free to express yourself just like I am, I guess. ;-)

And didn't yap about soldiers. I yapped about how I was raised per the US flag. I've never hung a federal flag up for the 4th though when I visited my granny we used to have a Confederate flag out for Memorial Day, Confederate Memorial Day. Some folks are queer but still have a knee jerk reaction when they see things they were taught are disrepectful to the US Flag the South or to the Christian religon or people who have a different accent, say a British one one you've never heard before. My opinion is that a person's accent or religion or nationality is none of your or my business. I'm against all our recent wars so don't smear with that NEO-CONSERVATIVE crap because your preaching to the choir. . If I was French, depending on their attitude toward their flag, I wouldn't like one turned into a bikini or speedos. And I don't have a problem with complaining. But I do have a problem with subject matter that becomes fodder for what's called flaming on the web. So I'm evacuating this thread having said my piece.

Where are you seeing the religiousness? I see some religious favorites on that account, but it looks to me like that account is one of his friends or something. Isn't he just in the Katy Perry clip? In that one it sounds like it's posted about a third person, and one of the comments under that video sounds like it may be Matt (sadly no videos in that account).

So, I already pointed out that not all governments are made up of "We, the People", and, furthermore, we (in the USA) have plenty of things about our government that do not make it democratic at all. I'm proud to be an American; I just show no exceptional respect to our flag, or anyone else's flag.

Look, before this post, I simply made one other post. One post. One that I believe was written in a philosophical and respectful manner; one that I felt strongly pointed out that not 'worshiping' the flag is no affront. Then, Mango seemed to evacuate the thread simply because some of us disagreed with him. I was not flaming anyone. I did not call him a neo-conservative or some of the other things he imagined. It would appear simply disagreeing with him made him run off. I then let the discussion continue, without addressing it. I only address this, because I felt I already addressed it and am pointing it out for emphasis.

Let the Matt Medrun worship continue, please.

Nowadays, the people who are most likely to make a big show of displaying the flag are the last ones to treat it with any respect. I see dirty, worn-out flags left hanging on houses year-round, day and night. The ultimate example to me was when Ronnie Coleman pulled a flag out of his posing trunks! No doubt the putz thought he'd score a few points for patriotism, but all he did was display his ignorance.
