What's with all the animals?

So, what's with all the animal descriptions? Bears, bulls, gorillas, otters, etc....

Oh! And what's the difference between a gym-rat and a gym-bunny? I thought that guys were the rats, and girls were the bunnies, but I've heard gym-bunny used in reference to guys too.

LOL, wannabehuge you aren't gay are you?

These are the different types of guys physically whether they are shaved or hairy. Otters and Cubs are generally hairy, but not quite as much as Bears or Gorillas are, plus they aren't as large either. They can be young too.

Gym bunnies and gym rats are pretty much interchangeable depending on who you talk to. I would never want to be called a bunny since it sounds so effeminate like you said.

IMO they're all just silly, pointless labels meant to group gay guys off from one another based on age, build, and body hair. Whoever came up with them, I don't know, but they've gone far past the point of being intuitive.

Bears: big and hairy. Makes sense, more or less.
Cubs: young bears. Still makes sense, even though it's cheesy.
Bulls: also a large animal, very aggressive, with balls the size of your fist.
Otters: cute, fuzzy, playful, and built to swim. Also, they like to hold hands as they float off to sleep. Silly, but the most flattering, IMO.
Gorillas: Poop-flinging primates with a very pronounced brow. Seriously? How the fuck is this supposed to be a sexy group?

These I find less ridiculous for some reason, probably because there are only two and they haven't devolved into "gym mice," "gym squirrels," and "gym wallabies" yet. Also, I have no idea why rats and bunnies.

Gym rats: I understand this as guys who go to the gym several days a week and work out hardcore to get bigger, more ripped, or whatever their goal is.
Gym bunnies: I understand this as girls or guys (more likely gay guys) who go to the gym more to peacock (see? there's another one), that is, show off how ripped/lean/toned they are in the hopes of finding a hottie to go home with.

So by my definitions, the difference between rats and bunnies would be the reason for going to the gym: get big vs. get laid. But seriously, take it all with a grain of salt, because no matter what animal you compare him to or why he goes to the gym, a man is a man.

...O.k., now, can someone explain the meaning of "Woof", as in,
"He's so woofy"
"I don't respond to woof"

I assume this is NOT a misspelling of Warf from "Deep Space Nine".

Does this have something to do with the aforementioned hairy animal names?

I'd say it's probably somewhat related to the animal metaphors, but there's also the whole "dawg" thing, like the kind of guy that would pull a Joey Tribbiani and hit on a girl with, "How YOU doin'?". If it helps, think of "woof" as a less blatantly lascivious, text version of the wolf whistle.

Not to mention it's really hard to write that sound out. Also, I feel like it only shows up in reference to big, beefy, hairy, stereotypical manly men, so there's more of a gruffness to "woof" than there is to whistling.

As for Worf, if you got enough gay trekkies in on it, you could probably turn that into a thing.

I've heard of the "woof" thing, I thought it was just online, or it was a reference to a wolf whistle, but that video...
Do gay guys really go around saying "woof" in real life?

We don't use 'rawr'. That is something straight guys do when they are trying to show off their muscles with their friends.

I know what a bear is (besides an ursine mammal) but what, besides a lupine mammal, is a wolf?

I personally think the animal descriptions were always a bit too stupid to begin with. I don't pay attention to them at all. :|
