When you change your diet, it often creates issues within your gut as the bacterial flora struggles to handle the change. Gassiness is the result... at least, that's my theory on it. I'm gassy sometimes, but not other times, and it seems to correlate with changes in diet, rather than anything specific in my diet, or anything about my progress in terms of muscle growth, training, etc.

When people drink products containing milk protein, those who are lactose intolerant fart like so badly it smells like sulfur in a steel mill. Same for when they squat -- the pressure on the abdomen forces out any gases in the gut.

Comes with the territory!

As my old gym coach used to say during warm up drills: "I wanna smell farts! If I don't smell farts, you guys aren't working hard enough!"

..Breathe through your mouth until the stench passes.....

Omar Isuf, one of the youtubers I trust for lifting advice, has a video about this. In short, he argues that getting gassy is a sign that your diet isn't quite agreeing with you. Whey protein is not necessarily the best protein for your body. That doesn't mean you can't use it (and sometimes availability and cost make it the only option), but that you may not be training optimally.

I know there's something in my diet that screws with my digestion. It isn't lactose, because a couple of months ago I started drinking a lot more milk and haven't seen any change on that front. One day I may have to simplify my diet, start tracking my gas, and gradually reintroduce foods until I find the culprit, but right now I'm too strapped for cash to be picky about my diet. If it fits in my mouth as well as my macros, I eat it.

Try a probiotic. It helps digestion and cuts down on air biscuits.

Barking spiders can also be caused by (or made worse by) gulping air when you eat and by drinking more carbonated beverages.

But the deadly sulphur is definitely a marker for gut discord.

Oh god yes. When I lived with a bodybuilder and was into it more myself, the windows had to be open a lot. And all that protein makes your sweat smell like ammonia too. Knowing what I know now, I don't think that much protein is necessary or healthy. But in the eighties and nineties, we all thought you had to take in two grams of protein per pound of bodyweight a day in order to gain muscle.

Yea it definitely affects everything. I think most people have it down to 1.5 grams but 2 grams is still pretty frequently told to guys who just want a basic understanding of bulking methods. You also have to keep up your veggies which some guys don't do that can help with digestion and other things.

Part of the negatives that go with growing.

Here's a nice video about the science of farts:

One thing is that although we all fart, excessively stinky farts are a sign of an unhealthy digestive tract. The importance of this can not be understated: you digestive system is your nutrient uptake system. It also is the key to your immunity, your moods, and probably a lot more that we don't know about.

Natural fruit in the morning, fibrous fruit at night, and a good probiotic can help. You can also cut out the artificial foods, eat probiotic foods (like pickles, kefir, and sauerkraut from a farmer's market as much of the store-bought stuff is dead.) I will mix a good vegan protein with my whey, I find that works for me. Another thing I have issues with is wheat flour.

Like others have said here, you have to find what works with your system, but toxic smells are not a sign of good health.
