Question Starting with questions

I'm gonna start, with no clear direction, and no clean goals. I have no idea what I'm doing or how to do it. My partner and I moved into a new apt complex that has a gym on sight. I plan to work out there. He is going to teach me some things, but I really don't know what realistic goals would be.

CURRENT: WOULD LIKE TO BE:
40" stomach 34" stomach
38" waist 32" waist
15.5" calfs 18" calfs
19.5" thighs 24" thighs
42.5" chest 46" chest
11" forearms 13" forearms
13.5" biceps 16" biceps

6'2" ~200Ibs BMI of ~ 26.5

Does that even sound reasonable?

I am starting to change my eating habits by eating healthy:
-whole grain breads (I'm not giving up breads!)
-granola snacks
-fiber cereals
-fruits
-increased protein (chicken, fish, turkey & some red meat)
-skim mild and low fat yogurt
-decreasing sauces on foods
-cooking at home
-not eating after 7pm
-eating three meals with 2 healthy snacks
-some vegetables (allergic to several

Should I take protein powder in limited amounts?
What are some of the ways that you stack your work out routines? (back & bi's etc)

Current: 21.44% bodyfat
Would Like to Be: 8.99% bodyfat (assuming weight remains unchanged)

I believe that is perfectly plausible and wish you all the best.

Good luck to you, I would recommend 4 to 6 meals a day instead of 3 it will get your metabolism working better and help you to keep your bodyfat low. Stay away from products with High Fructose Corn Syrup, and keep sugars and simple starches to a minimum. Do not bother with protein powder until you have a diet of real food that works for you, then eventually you may add a protein powder if you want to put on weight.

OK, so I got a body fat calculator thingy (depressing, but interesting). Current body fat % is 30% (62Ibs of fat/134Ibs of lean body mass). Would an appropriate goal be 16% or 24%?

Or, don't worry about it, just work out and eat better, and measure in 3 months.

Ideas? Comments?

Well, that's interesting as that figure of 21.44% was devised also using a body fat calculator online using the figures quoted. Be interesting to see what formula they used.

Here's a good estimate (apologies for the math in advance)

Bodyfat: 62lbs = 28.148kg = 28,148g = 253,332 calories in excess
Resting Metabolic Rate: 1,960 calories a day

Therefore to burn the 2lbs of fat per week (as recommended by doctors) you need to use 1,167 MORE calories than you ingest.

OK, so, i needed a goal that is much more simpler to get me started: Work out daily. That's it. That includes just jogging or biking. Something each day. I figure after a while, when I get into a routine of working out daily, I can really start to break down the work outs to accomplish my goals.

does anyone know of a site where i can learn about excersises and how to preform them? I've been going daily and am actually enjoying it. I get to kinda zone out and relax. My apt's gym only has machines. I'm going to buy (2 X 20Ibs) and (2 X 10Ibs) dumbbells to increase the amount of excersises. I'm keeping it simple, one goal still, just go!

Bodybuilding.com has a great site and once you look around you should be able to find instructions on almost every exercise as well as routine based on specific goals and fitness levels. They also sell supplements and workout gear their prices are fairly competitive and their customer service is very good.
