America's Got Talent -- The Strong Man

Anyone else see John Beatty, The Strong Man, on AGT last night. Says he
is an Operating Room RN. Maybe so. Definately a neat daddy in the making.
Great to see Piers challenged and be forced to back down. Great act.

The Audition

Could I ask out of interest why the crowd cheered when he mentioned he was an operating room nurse? Here in the UK they would have noted it, but not reacted in the same way.

Here in America, if you tell a crowd of people you're work as an emergency serviceperson (fire department, police department, hospital, etc) you're an instant hero, its one of the better parts of American culture.

In actuallity, they did a cut away to a group of swaying ladies in the audience and if you listen, the cheers are predominantly high, meaning women's voices. There's a two part reason for the cheer here: 1. The ladies are just thrilled to death that a big, strong, hunk of a man works as a nurse cause they'd love to either be "treated" by him or work with him, 2. It is actually, still in this day and age, in many parts of America, a very courageous choice to be male and study to be a nurse cause it's still looked upon as being a "female" job. Matter of fact in much of the midwest if you're male and tell someone from that part of the country you're a nurse they're going to make the stereotypical conclusion that you're also gay.

Not that I agree with that, or that it's right, but it is the way some folks still see some things.

It's amazing. This guy is obviously as strong as an ox, but he just seems so . . . well . . . cute and cuddly somehow.

Love how the big strong RN easily lifted the slim guy. Also, glad he showed Mr. Mouthy, who's the man.

He was really hot! He seemed strong as a ox and cuddly as a teddy bear all at the same time. He must be fantastic in the sack!
