Cool Post Surgery Motivation

It's done, men (rotator cuff). Now for the long recovery. Thanks for helping me stay positive and motivated through this whole ordeal. Hope to start PT next week. Goal to be training with arms/shoulders/back again in 4-6 weeks.

Mdlftr will become famous soon enough
HI Muscledd6foot3,
I just saw this thread, and thought I'd respond for two reasons:
1. I'm 6'3" myself and
2. I had major surgery in March 2009. It took me 15 months of medical rehab to get back in the gym, but I'm here! BE patient! When you've had necessary surgery, like you've had, your body needs time to heal. With your motivation, and with good rest and healing, you'll be back in the gym before you know it! One thing: make sure you give yourself the chance to heal thoroughly -- you don't want to come back too soon and reinjure yourself! Listen to your body and you'll be all right!

Good luck with the recovery!

I've been there, and I know the feeling of having to wait to work out!

Best,

Mdlftr

Thumbs up Thanks Men!!!

Update: Two months since surgery, I have had 8 weeks of strict, closely monitored and supervised physical therapy. Shoulder is recovering well. Surgeon gave it a 50-50 chance of needing the joint replaced at the time. Training for 2 months specifically to prepare for the surgery helped a lot! Motivation has picked back up and I'm determined to keep my own parts. During the past three weeks, I am gradually "returning" to the gym, but restrictions will be serious regarding which exercises and limited weights. Somehow, through it all, I have managed to continue limited core-training. Have also kept up leg work, cardio and managed nutritional intake well. Bodyfat is down to 10% to 12% range, maintaining it since the surgery. Hardest thing right now is to maintain restraint to avoid injuring it again. Thanks Mdlftr for the encouragement and caution to exercise self-control. Thanks everyone for the good chats to keep my spirits up through all this!
