Raw eggs Is it bad to eat them? |
| |||
Well there is about a 1 in 10,000 chance you can get salmonella. I work in the ER and I dont' really want to get anything that is going to make me shit 40 times a day for a week :P. I'll just cook them, thanks :P |

Why do the raw egg thing? That was part of the whole 70's and 80's no-clue fitness deal. A good diet doesn't need to taste like crap. Cook them however you want them. __________________ Quit jerking off and morph yourself for a change! |

You can buy pasteurized egg whites and they should be safe. They're better tasting in a shake than straight. The only real reason to not cook them is convenience: time and cleanup. I don't think there is a nutritional benefit to raw versus cooked. |

Even with high risk eggs (from factory farms where antibacterial soaps are used rather than bleach and steam jet cleaners) you can still reduce the risk to near zero by soaking the eggs for ten minutes in a four percent bleach water mix. It's a good idea to do this every time you bring home eggs (and don't just stuff them back in the potentially contaminated carton they came in) before storing them in the fridge. I don't do this very often but I also live in an area where local suppliers are fairly reliable. Be sure to wash your hands before and after cracking open the eggs and always throw out any cracked or broken eggs. |

There was a time when eating a raw egg would pose little danger. In modern times when egg farms contain literally thousands of birds I would not do it on a bet. The same used to be true of raw meat. Again, the dangers are always present and the potential though small is still there for some really "unpleasant" problems. There is zero difference between the nutritional value of a raw egg versus a cooked one. Back a zillion years ago the raw egg thing came from some wives tales regarding making or incorporating them into a primitive protein shake. The next thing that popularized and reinforced the fantasy were the "Rocky" films where Stallone in training was seen doing raw eggs. Today there are good protein powders and raw eggs are taking a chance with little to no benefit. |

Totally Agree The information presented here is great. Now days you can buy your eggs any way needed. I use fresh from the farm eggs and have learned many ways to speed up the whole process. A little bit of research will lead you to finding a way of dealing with eggs suitable for your situation. You can boil eggs, freeze egg whites for storage, use farm eggs that don't need refrigerated, or you can buy the simple egg beaters for quick use. Just research bro, you might even find out duck eggs are much more nutrient too. R, Bodak |
