I'm still waiting for Detective Ron to have a talk with Bob and Ryan about getting a group of cops and detectives to become test subjects. That would keep things from getting out of hand. Just imagine a cop as powerful and calm as Frank was, holding Jason up against the wall.

So far you've amassed 55,000 words of utter page-turning (screen-scrolling?) excellence. You also seem to be weaving out meatier chapters in less time. Your own regard to your work is both industrious and feverish, and I am most envious.

The bit about the homecoming queen being a lesbian made me laugh out loud, and I am on a bus as I write this. Heads turned in my direction. Probably thought I had Tourettes or something.

Roid rage is a scary thing. I experienced it firsthand in 1999 when my bodybuilder bf of the time decided to turn my ribcage into a punchbag. I was terrified, as he was 240lbs of sizzling juice-fuelled muscle at the time. I'd never felt so helpless. Glad you featured it in the story. It was powerfully written and stirred some emotions. Well done.

"Roid Rage" is a very much over-hyped thing.

Looking through what I could find online in various publications, the correlation between high testosterone and violence is weaker than the correlation between other hormones (cortisol and a few "female" hormones in particular) and violence.

There's a lot of 'repeating received wisdom' though -- the same questionable acceptance that you find when you ask a dietician how much water you should drink; the recommendation of 8 16-oz glasses per day was based on a number that was picked at random, not scientifically.

The studies of the "problem" are unreliable at best, with repeatable non-confounded results showing consistently minor, generally positive increases in aggression identified among people who supplement with testosterone.

Aggression is not necessarily violence; it can also (and usually does) just mean assertiveness. Generally, there is a separate primary cause for the violent behavior; giving a person who already has poor impulse control a drug that enhances their impulsiveness is not generally safe, but most people don't have that problem.



All that notwithstanding, the story seems not to be buying into the stereotype.
I have been enjoying it a great deal.

Well that ties some loose ends for now at least. I hope the Ron continues to be understanding about the grow juice but I worry that the arrests will stir interest with state and federal drug enforcement people looking to make a name for themselves.

I can understand and sort of support Bob not knowing that Courtney has the grow juice formula but does Ryan know Courtney has the formula. Based on Bob's remark about firing Ryan it would probably best for him not to know.

Since Twiddle Dumb and Twiddle Dumber, AKA Sammy and Frank, know Courtney has access to the grow juice in large quantities and may suspect he has the formula. They are dangerous particularly to Courtney's safety. If the Twiddles are pressured of information they will spill they guts in without a second thought. And with Alex sort of shunning Frank I suspect that Sammy may want Frank to retaliate. So Frank fingers Courtney to Jason??? (Maybe they should have had Sammy neutered after all or at least fit him with the shock collar.) I think Court will try to keep the secret now but he's he's not big enough to be a match Jason and a goon or two.

The geek squad actually signing up to be athletes would probably be a violation of the Alex-Jason Anti Bullying Accord too I think we can expect some confrontations soon... But it is great for the geeks most geeks dream of actually being able to be jocks...

I know that roid rage is controversial, and I'm not in any position to say whether you're right or wrong. I just thought it made a good story. I respect your opinion.
