I'm having a blast with Brandon, the new trainer. He's 24, 6 ft, 235 lbs., big and built, short dark hair, blue eyes, dimples, former Army sharpshooter, i.e., WOOF! Naturally, he's also straight, married, and has a little kid! But that's probably just as well. If he were gay, he'd probably be all standoffish about having someone old enough to be his father going hubba hubba around him. As it is, he's well aware of the fact that he's a hottie and quite happy to get compliments that he doesn't have to reciprocate! Plus he's what I call a "smart" meathead. Totally gets "never too big" but also agrees that "correct form is paramount." And he loves it that I always (well, always try) to give him one more rep than he asks for. We'll see what happens. You'll notice that photoset also includes the pix that I took in the Fall of 2007, six months after starting with my first trainer, Josh. I guess I haven't deteriorated all THAT much! xoxo Richard |

The overall goal at this point is regaining upper body strength and overall muscle mass, so lots of basic exercises: Bench press (flat, incline, decline) Flyes (dumbbells, cables, t-band) Curls (EZ Curl bar, dbs, barbells, cables) Triceps (extensions and push downs) Rows (Upright, bent over, single arm, seated) Shoulder press / front raises / lateral raises etc. Squats / leg press / calf raises / leg curls / hip rotations / abductors / adductors And so on and so forth. Right now I'm training with him three days a week so we usually split it up so we concentrate on two body parts at a time; for example, chest and biceps; back and triceps; legs and shoulders.
