I have always felt that, between males, there is a very strong sense of competition and desire to compare muscles in order to prove who is the biggest, strongest, and most muscular. Maybe it?s genetic and ?programmed? into us. Anyway, I had an incident happen to me last Sunday at the grocery store which was kind of cool and amazing (it involves this type of desire for muscle-competition and proves that it can be really strong). I had just come from the gym and was dressed in my workout clothes (tanktop, shorts, etc.) and my muscles were still pumped up and vascular from the workout. After I got to the store and parked, I was walking across the parking lot and I heard a male voice say: ?I?m gonna catch you?you?d better watch out? and then he said it again. I turned around and it was another guy (also wearing a tanktop and shorts) and I looked at him. He was obviously also a bodybuilder and his muscles were big and vascular (they also looked pumped up, too). I had never seen this guy before and, at first, I didn?t know what he was talking about. He then said, ?Your muscles are big, but I?ll catch up to you ? check this out" and he started to flex his biceps, quads, calves, etc. right in the parking lot! This is exactly how it happened and he was trying to show how big and muscular he was compared to me and that he could soon ?catch? me! All of this from a guy that I didn?t even know!!!

This really caught me off guard and for a few seconds I didn?t know what to say. So, I just watched him flex and pump his muscles. But then, the competitive male ?instinct? in me kicked in and I said ?You?re not there yet. I?m bigger than you and you won?t catch me either? and, with that, I started to flex my biceps, quads, calves, etc. too! He then came over and got right next to me (I mean, he got so close that his arm actually touched mine when he flexed his biceps next to mine). So, we kept flexing and actually had a mini pose-down/flex-off right in the parking lot! All of this with somebody that I didn?t even know.

After comparing muscles (there were actually a few people staring at us which I realized after we finished), he admitted that I was bigger and more ripped/vascular than him and said that ?We?ll have a rematch someday and my muscles will win ? wait and see!? He then laughed, shook my hand, and left. I don?t know who he was or anything about him and he just got into his car and drove off. Seriously! After that, I kind of walked around in the grocery store in a daze thinking about what just happened.

As I said earlier, I think that there is an incredibly strong drive between males to show muscle-dominance and the incident described above really proves it to me, especially since the guy was a total stranger. Has this kind of thing ever happened to any of you guys out there (where another guy comes up to you to compare muscles and you don?t even know who he is)? Anyway, I just thought that the whole thing was kind of cool?
