Question Whey Protein

Hey guys,

I've recently started taking my workouts seriously and have been loosing quite a bit of weight - and wanted to complement this [obviously!] with also building muscle.

This week I started integrating whey protein into my diet, as from what i've read, it can not only help to build muscle mass but also assist in energy levels / weight loss.

I was just wondering if you guys have has any good / bad experience with using protein powers as part of your diet - my flatmate kinda freaked out when he saw it - said it was 'unnatural and i'd end up massive' [!!] but I assured him it was a nutritional supplement and not a steroid. We left it at that...

So I have 2 questions - let me know your positive / negative experiences with when protein, and also - what is the best way to incorporate it? before / after workouts or as part of a regular diet - 3 times a day? At the moment i'm taking 25g before and after working out, with stats: 179cm and 86kgs - working out 5 times a week and also swimming 4/5 times week...

Thanks in advance for help and advice guys - a bit new to all this but excited to properly get into it and transform my body!

Mate the excess use of anything is harmful and if you'll use whey protein in excess without doing regular workouts then it may cause many side effects.

it is dried concentrated food. your friend is hysterical with rumors and biased articles.
Having said that, it is a supplement. It is a good idea to take 1 scoop before and one after workout. bring up your total protein to 1.2g/bodyweight lb , and you're set for protein. the rest of your calories should be from low GI carbs, and good fats (don't ban fat from your diet! just make sure you're in a 400 calories daily deficit, and your OK).

p.s. this is all fora healthy adult. illness or other conditions, esp. kidney , should be more careful, and consult a professional sports nutritionist.

Whey's protein is good for me, and it comes from farm and comes naturally from milk. Whey's protein has all essential amino acids and is easy m for my stomach to digest.

If you are not lactose intolerant and you want to put on mass, I am a big advocate of whole milk, drink a lot of it and you will gain weight.

A cup of whole milk is < 8g of protein.

Pays to read your labels.
