How to put on defined mass?

My goal is not just to grow, I don't want to be chubby or such. I wanna grow with defined muscles. And also gain some fitness and strength, not only volume.

So my question is:
does it make sense to hit the gym daily or how many times a week, to give my muscles time for actual growth and regeneration...

and what combination of sets and reps, with which max. weight in % of my current capacity, makes sense to grow defined muscles?

And in addition a subquestion concerning my diet, does it make sense to accept - for this goal - to gain some fat before a "cycle" since it would nurture muscle growth? Or is the opposite the case? Or what?

Thanks

Those are actually really good questions.

I don't have teh knowledge and expertise to answer them comfortable, but I'm curious what the answers will be.

I agree Mike Mentzer's ideas are spot on when it comes to bodybuilding.

It depends on where you are starting from. Are you skinny, medium or large build? Do you hold on to fat, or are you a little soft? I started by doing cardio in the mornings 5 days a week and lifting 4 days a week in the evenings. At the beginning I did 2 upper body and 2 lower body workouts per week with mainly compound lifts. After 8-12 weeks, I switched things around to a body part split in the evenings, but kept am cardio. There is no magic program. Research websites such as t-nation.com and stronglifts.com and find something you can do. The most important thing is getting your diet in check. Once I figured out how to eat, the fat stripped away, the muscle "piled" on, and my confidence went through the roof. Consistency is the key.
