"Stretch, screech, stretch, strain!"

You hear that? I think it's his clothes already straining, if I can hear it form 2,000 miles away, it must be time for him to get some new clothes! Try an outlet store, so you won't feel bad replacing cheap clothes again soon!

Okay so I haven't updated in a while, but I have been going to the gym alot, so there's a good explanation right there.

I promise new pictures in the new year, especially since my trainer wants me to go from 3-4x a week to 5x a week working out.

My weight by the way, is now 172, and I'm getting leaner, and more symmetrical. I can't wait to cause jaws to drop in the summer...
This is gonna be fun.
On another note my personal trainer, although a small guy, he's 5'7" probably 140lbs, is freaky strong.
When he does his arm day, he starts with 70lbs to curl for dumbell curls...
It just goes on from there. He may not be big but he's wiry and strong.
His muscles are very very hard.
I think that's why I like the guy, he knows what he's talking about.
G.

As for whether my muscles have grown at all, no real noticeable gains with the measuring tape, but as I said, my body has gotten more symmetrical.
So muscles that were off balance are now almost perfect.
Which is cool...
Off to do biceps and chest today... Love the winter weather. Not.

Yeah, it's sunny, but I think it only got to about 72 here today. I almost had to wear a shirt with sleeves when I had lunch outside today!

*grumble*

I love Colorado in the summertime....but.... wintertime has it's good and bad parts...

Today's high will be 7 deg. F (that's -14 C) and that was at 6am today. It's now 7:40am and 5 deg. F (-15 C) with a wind chill of -15 F (-23 C). The snow is blowing sideways... but somehow.... after reading that thread about the plummer and the arm wrestling competition... I"m feeling quite warm.

Hrm.... odd how that works.

Anyhow - the object was to make you feel better about YOUR winter experience vs. mine and give you less excuse to skip workouts over it. So get to the gym gord!!!

What is this, "Snow" thing you talk about? I don't think it can actually get down to 7 F. However, if it really does, I'm sure the gym is still heated.

Oh I did get to the gym yesterday. Did Biceps And Chest.
Got a sweet pump too... Here's yesterday's workout:

Extra Wide Bench Press-Flat
25 pounds x 15
35 pounds x 15
40 pounds x 15

It may not be much, but it's dammned hard building the chest when I've never had one before. Also the weights are a little lower for certain excercises since I had to go solo for this week, without the trainer...

Incline Flies
15 x 15
17.5 x 15
20 x 15

Isolated Bicep Curls
(on incline bench)
15 x 15
17.5 x 15
20 x 15

Preacher Curls
40 x 15
45 x 15
50 x 15

Pec Deck
35 x 15
40 x 15
45 x 15

Always fun. By the end I could barely do the final few preacher curls.
And while doing the 2nd set of Pec Deck I slammed the damn grips on one of my fingers. It hurt so friggen much. No blood though. I just briefly flattened the fingernail. Which we all know hurts like hell...

Anyways, it's freezing rain out there right now today, and it took me 2 hours to get to the gym yesterday, and let's just say I've got some housework to do that I've put off... I'll do a combo day tommorrow. Legs and Shoulders..
Then a day off. Then cardio day on Sunday. Then my trainer is back on Monday...

Then there's the little matter of paying the trainer... My mom can be such a cunt sometimes... Cripes... I'll pay her back. When the hell am I gonna win the lottery...?

CG, on a serious note: be careful, freezing rain, and the resulting black ice can be very, very dangerous! I remember that from living in Oregon.

As for flattening your finger-nail, I know it hurts, but you'll have to toughen up over time. It's a minor injury, and I get those at work all the time. Soon you'll barely even feel them.

Take Care, and do some push-ups on your day off today, you'll totally feel them since they'll need both your chest & biceps!

Sounds like a killer routine! 15 rep sets are WAY more than I usually go for (8-10, sometimes 6-8). Is that 40lbs on top of the 45 that the bar weighs? 95lb bench press isn't bad at all when you can do 15 of them.... I mean.... there are a lot of guys who can't do that when they're beginners and particularly with an "extra-wide" stance (that's the ONLY way I like to do it too... it just gives the best chest pump). I can't tell you how many little guys I've seen jump on the bench and load up 250lbs and grab the bar with this grip that's about 12" wide and basically do a combo bench/french press thing while arching their back and sort of making the weight *hop* up in the air. It's sad... and pointless... and dangerous.

I think preacher curl is my favorite exercise - seriously. It's brutal and totally awesome at the same time. It gives my arms the best killer pump feeling and makes me feel the strongest for moving all that weight when it's isolated down to JUST my biceps like that. I absolutely love it. Plus you can really watch your arms flex during the movement.

The only thing that drives me nuts (and I do bicep and chest on the same day as well, incidentally) is that I can actually preacher curl a little more than I bench press. I'm assuming that's abnormal... it feels like it should be... but I don't really know. I blame it all on my weak chest (my weakest part too).

-Chris

You know I'm not sure how much the bar weighs.. I'm not very strong in my chest area yet, so I did what my trainer said to do: Start off with 10lbs on each side, then add 5lbs then 2 1/2 for the final set.. So I'm guessing how much I'm doing really...

dear CG;

wonderful to hear about your progress&enthusiasm.from your pix(&hearing you're an actor)i think you may be surprised how much your FACE changes as you continue to train&improve your diet.there's a lot to be said for a"healthy glow"!(on a serious note:any financial plan that has"winning the lottery"at its center is flawed)

My trainer noticed the difference in my face first. I see it more clearly now, as quite a lot of fat has been dropped. My weight now is at year 1999 weight, just after my life came crashing apart, right at Christmas...
I want to drop even more fat so I can finally see my stomach after all these years.. And I mean abs... lol.
As for that financial plan that includes the lottery.. Well the lottery is only a small percentage of that plan.
The majority of the plan includes me getting rich and famous from my acting talent, or my writing talent...
Or hell my body. I could include my body in that plan now.
Cool. Gotta brave the crowds tommorrow and get to the gym to do a killer workout. Gonna be fun.

G.

No, gambling is a great investment. You should come down here and pay my taxes, er, um, gamble! We need a new freeway, and to fix the Monorail, so gambling is good (as long as I'm not doing it...)

lol. Uh huh...
Had a good workout today at the gym.
I did manage to get there after all.
I did both Shoulders and Legs.
I couldn't finish three excercises simply because I exhausted the muscles
And I ran out of time. The damned gym closed early at 4pm!
Why should they have lives?
I need to grow DAMMNIT!
lol. Just joking...
I kept to a schedule and did a majority of the excercises...
Now I'm rewarding myself by making a gingerbread house.
Alas the damned icing doesn't want to stick to the house, only to my hand...
Mmm, pure sugar...
Frig, I'll have to do a week's worth of cardio. 65 minutes each day to make up for this holiday.

g.

p.s. Merry Christmas gang!

I was thinking about working out after work, but I couldn't bring myself to wreck someone else's holiday, just because I had to work too. I think gyms, stores, theaters, etc. should all be closed on holidays. F**k the bottom line.

But not everyone celebrates Christmas...
And besides there's a wonderful thing out there called Holiday Pay.

I love it. Time and a half.
Businesses pay it because it means they'll make money... They hope.
Also see my above comment about not everyone celebrating every holiday...
If we were all on holiday as much every time a real holiday came around.
And I mean all religions...
We'd never get any work done. lol.

Well, Christianity is the dominate religion of the US, and I don't like to work on the birthday of my savior. I know lots of nonchristians that like the time off for parties etc. wether they are Jewish, atheist, or otherwise.

Everyone loves Christmas off. I don't mind that. I was merely griping about the gym closing at 4pm. When everything else was open till 6pm...

I had to drop a few excercises in order to fit it all in... Anyways...
Gym tommorrow.
Yay!
Plus lots of cardio to make up for the er, extra cookies...

I finally lifted today while I was out of town. Although it felt good to get a pump, I know I'm going to be nice and sore for the next couple of days.
I plan to make the most of the last few days of the year to get a good head start into next year.

Otto,
it's been a while since you've been able to work out, so you will be sore fore a while. Just enjoy the pain. You only get good aching for the first 2-3 weeks after you restart your work outs, then it fades... I think it's better to start now than at the New Year.

A quick update.

Toning phase pretty much complete. 3-4x a week.
This was the workout schedule.

Biceps/Chest
Legs
Shoulders
Back/Triceps
Biceps/Chest
etc...

Bulking comes next week.
5x a week. 5 weeks.
I'll get pictures done as early as possible to show you before and after.

Promise !

By the way, weight unofficially is now at 160lbs.
I checked on the semi reliable scale in the gym locker room...
Why is it unofficial? I haven't checked it as part of the fitness test...
But it counts.
And biceps are now rock hard.
I turn myself on now. Heheheh.

My current cool weight totals? (becauz I promised)

Seated Row=110 lbs
Pullovers=65 lbs
Bench Press=110 lbs!
Preacher Curls=60 lbs!
Hammer Curls=22.5 lbs.
Leg Press=90 lbs. (I can do more, but I'm strengthening the knees)
Seated Leg Curl=125 lbs.
Calf Raise=125 lbs.
Front Raise for Shoulders=35 lbs.
Shrugs=60 lbs.

Any questions?

Just a brief update. Happy New Year, and here's to my last day of eating carbs after 5pm! Yes, a new year a new diet, and a brand new workout.
Tommorrow I start a brand new workout. 5 days a week.
Pictures to be posted soon.

Plus measurements.

Exclamation My newest workout program

My program itself wouldn't copy right, and I'd love to attach it to the thread but excel isn't a valid type. If I can get it formatted right I'll post it.

Meanwhile:
My 5x a week program looks like this:

Day 1-Chest/Abs
Day 2-Quads/Calves
Day 3-Shoulders/Hamstrings
Day 4-Back/Abs
Day 5-Triceps/Biceps/Calves

Yes I'm doing Day 5 tommorrow. Will let everyone know how it went.

Note, I'm doing minimum 3 sets, maximum 6 sets per excercise. Anywhere from 6 reps to 15 reps per excercise. Anywhere from 6 excercises on one given day to 9 excercises per day.

I'm gonna grow!

For those that have wondered what happened to me, and where I went...
Well, the week after I started my new program I was hit by an accusation at work, and long story short, someone was on a power trip and I pissed them off.
I paid the price, and was fired from my job of four years.
I've had trouble sleeping, and only now am starting to get back to normal.
Alas my workouts have suffered.
I've only been able to get 3 workouts in, as opposed to the 5 a week.
It'll get back to normal I know. It will take time though.
Meanwhile we've also been dealing with very cold temperatures too.
Since I don't drive, getting downtown to my gym has been a pain.
Add to that, that I now have to get a new job.. And you can imagine it's been a trying time for me.
I'll pull through, I always do.
One good thing:
And I'm now at 170lbs. I'm getting bigger!
Back to the gym this week.
Gordon.

Hi Gordon,

Keep it up! By reading your posts I see that you have a very positive attitude despite all the bad weather and stresses at work and so on. You use a lot of "I will", "I always" and "I'm gonna". Thats a funtastic attitude to have!

Yeah, I see the weather is rather bad over there at present. From what i've seen from the news over here in the UK, it looks horendious!

Anyway, keep going! with an attitude like that, your already half way there...

Marc

Thanks. I only know it's gonna get warmer from hereon in.
So it's a matter of time... And by the way, my shirts are fitting a lot better.
Dress shirts especially. I put on a suit jacket yesterday and looked a little freaky cause my shoulders are getting bigger, because I'll have to remove the padding soon from my suit jackets!
lol.

:O

Damn dude!! I'm sorry to hear about the bullshit at work. I hope your accuser tries it again with someone else and gets caught doing it this time.... maybe then they'll rethink what a good idea it was to listen to that asshole.

Damn.... I can't imagine how much that would suck. I agree - it's amazing and inspiring to me that you're keeping a great attitude in spite!

Keep it on!!!

-Chris

Truthfully I'm not going to give it a second thought. Fuck em. They didn't realize that my pros outweighed the cons. Morons.
Their loss, not mine.
Good news though, I've got an audition for Macbeth booked.
They emailed me today. Should be fun.

w00t!!!

Macbeth is awesome. The only shakespeare I love more I think is midsummer night's dream which I was lucky enough to see once at the DCPA and performed VERY well....

Hamlet - everyone always seems to f* it up...

Yeah, it's time to move on. I'm a big fan of the book "Who Moved My Cheese?"
I'm sure you can find it at your public library.

Good luck on Mc Beth, and on the job hunt.
