I was at the campus gym today and there was a pretty big guy there. Granted, a lot of the guys there are in varying degrees of good shape, but he was BIG. Probably about 6'1" with really big arms for someone around 20-21 years old. He was doing overhead cable tricep extensions at a machine next to me and I couldn't help looking. Hopefully I wasn't too obvious. At one point he took a break to flex at himself in the mirror (which was across the room, mind you) and damn that bicep. It was at least 18", maybe 19". Definitely a good day at the gym for me.

At first glance, Richard, I read that as you walked by and passed out.

As members will no doubt know, this winter in the UK has been rather wet

(and by rather I mean soakingly wet)

And whilst it has dried up a little in recent days, most people in the west of Wales are not taking any chances and everyone in our main town today was wearing coats and had umbrellas to hand. All expect one person who was the only person in the store I was shopping in wearing a short sleeved shirt and because of that it was pretty easy to state "He must be a bodybuilder" which poses the question "Do bodybuilders not feel the cold then?"

(Approximate stats: 6ft, 180 - 200lbs, 16 biceps, 44 chest)

I was at the movies tonight when I saw two young men, maybe age 17 to 18. One white, one African American. Black guy maybe 5'11" 175#, toned, fit, wearing typical teen jeans and shirt and sneakers. White guy friend, maybe 6", BUILT, maybe 220 - 230# big muscle thighs and protruding butt encased in extremely formfitting blue jeans snuggly fitting around his thighs, hamstrings and butt. Equally thick on top, with two big, full pectoral mounds jutting out, covered by snug fitting tee shirt. Arms looked like they were around 17"..all over thick and built and rounded, rather than cut and ripped. Curly dirty blonde hair, young looking face. I'm guessing junior year football player off season in a bulking phase. That explains the big ass, thighs and pecs= squats, deadlifts and bench press for football.

Impressive, whatever they're feeding them these days!

Thanks, Suma! You're very kind.

As you probably know, I DO write muscle fiction.

It's just a long spell in between stories!

I'll have to rummage around in the ole' chest of creative ideas!

Also, now that spring is here and I'm getting out more, maybe inspiration will strike!

Oh, that reminds me. Right after I saw the off-season football player and his bud described above, I stepped out into the corridor of the movie theater and saw a jacked papi (Hispanic guy, mid 30s) clean shaven, about 5'9", maybe 180# walking towards me with his family. He had thick dark hair and heavy eyebrows. He was handsome. He had broad shoulders, biggg arms that were filling out the short sleeves of his collared shirt quite nicely, and a solid torso that was evidently behind the shirt. Throw in the usual snug jeans and kick ass work boots, and you have a Saturday night at the movies!

It was at the best in the mid 20s (-3 or -4C!) and they were all slightly shivering and they were all slightly blue! On the other hand, the convention center didn't have a coat check service (quelle concept! but then there were something like 100K attendees over 4-5 days!) so I guess they decided freezing their asses off for 15 minutes each way was preferable to walking around the convention center with their muscles covered up!

I was quite amused (and my eyeballs were happy!)

OK, I get this sort of thing a lot, It is even worse for powerlifters as we have "insulation" as well as muscles. We get cold when our bodies are loosing heat to fast for our metabolism to keep up, just like you do. The difference is that if you are putting away 4-6 thousand calories a day just to maintain your current weight then 4-6 thousand calories of heat need to be dissipated from you body so your brains don't boil! Bearing in mind that is 16,000 -24,000 btu's of heat!

This is one of those thermodynamics things that no one seems to grasp, the difference between heat and temperature.

This means I buy all my clothes in the summer, because I need to be wearing short sleeves or a tank top inside while everyone else has cranked up the heat in the winter. If I am at a meet or a convention ducking outside for a minute into the cold air is a relief, as it will get very hot inside with all the people milling around and putting off heat. I have a shaved head, which helps, especially since I can throw on a hat outisde if it is below freezing, and take it off when I come in. (Little old ladies just go nuts over this because they think I am the only person left on the planet with manners, because I take my hat off as soon as I step inside.)

Saturday was apparently Shirtless Day at the place I train.

No, not for me.

Here's the thing. When LA Fitness purchased Bally Fitness, and then met the requirement of not firing the professional employees (managers and personal trainers) by "offering them all positions" - as desk receptionists, part-time janitors, or in the cases where their professional qualifications exceeded LA Fitness' somewhat excessive requirements, offering them jobs doing training at three separate sites where they would have to travel more than 15 miles between sessions, a lot of their employees said "screw you with the horse you rode in on" and started their own businesses.

My trainer joined with about six other guys and a Hungarian "kid" who's been a bodybuilder since his early teens and who has the majority of the money in the business, and they opened a place which has gradually grown to be a good size.

The thing is, the trainers are getting more and more amazing.

There's a trainer from Estonia (I think) and two of his clients who are, like he is, all preparing for an upcoming "fitness physique" contest. There's also the Hungarian guy. My trainer doesn't take his shirt off - though he looks like a slightly short Chris Redfield.
There's also a black guy, about 5'10" tall by 3'9" wide by 2'9" thick ... I'd say about 8% bodyfat, but he didn't take his shirt off.

It's bad enough that Alex (the Estonian guy) wears Underarmor and makes the display dummies at my local sporting good store look anemic. The guy he's training is six feet three inches and would be lanky if every muscle wasn't so thick. He's easily 55 inches around the shoulders, but I think he's under 32 inches at the waist. Taking their shirts off, that's just cruel.

No, I did not have a camera.

Where is it?

Hillsboro, Oregon. (Actually a small unincorporated urb named "Orenco".)

TODAY was worse. Not two of them, Alex the Fitness Competitor was leading a group of ten other guys through what to expect for their first fitness competition.

GAH! The rope-pull machine was RIGHT next to where they were standing around shirtless in the ridiculous leg-concealing 'board shorts' that the fitness competitors wear.

I needed to warm up. I couldn't handle the distraction so I did my pull-downs with eyes closed for concentration.

I told Alex later, "if you keep having naked Saturday I am going to start putting pictures on the web."

OK, here's the info on my gym.

http://www.superior-physique.com

Check out the "Our Team" page.

My trainer is completely missing from the pics - I think he feels shy or under-impressive or something even though he looks like a 5'5" Chris Redfield. Still.

Boris (bottom of the page) is tapering off his "bulk" for the upcoming Emerald Cup fitness/physique contest. http://www.craigproductions.com/emer...-cup-main-info

He's 6'2" 210ish. About 15 pounds heavier than in the photo on the site. He's about five weeks out from the contest and he is very bad for my concentration.

Alex (also shown) is the most flagrantly pretty man I've seen in a while, but he's also a bit arrogant. Boris is borderline - he's very confident, but not smug.

They're going to be competing against each other. Boris might be a bit "too big" for the Prettiest Men type contest, and he's too small for standard bodybuilding (but only because he's not a living morph thanks to HGH and bizarre drugs that permit insane overtraining to turn into growth rather than death. Boris is not that freaky. But he may get there.)

Boris AND Alex are both from Macedonia, described as a small country in Europe. Also, the origin of Alexander the Great.

Bet Alex hears that all the time - nyuk nyuk!
But, seriously, Macedonia? TWO hunks from Macedonia?

What are the odds? Did you import them?!

C'mon nnnrg, 'fess up!!

Take a look at the gym's owner. He's on the "Our Philosophy" page - the second from the right. He's the importer. I don't know where he finds them all.

I think he's Hungarian, btw.

I'm an engineering student and I spend most of my days surrounded by other engineering students. There are a lot of skinny guys and some guys that are actually pretty athletic, but one guy stands. He is a nontraditional student, about thirty and a former marine. I've always thought he was impressive, but he has been working out, trying to lose some weight from being trapped on campus and having to eat fast food or vending machine snacks.

Anyways yesterday I noticed some definite changes. He was wearing a tight green shirt that clung to his upper body. The sleeves rested right above his large biceps, and hugged his pecs giant round pecs. His abs were partially visible through the fabric. I actually stopped an stared for a second. He doesn't flaunt his body or act like a douche bag, he is actually pretty nice and gets along with anybody.

As he interacted with other students I couldn't help but take constant stares. One of his lab partners is a guy six inches shorter and at least 50lbs lighter. Another is actually about the same height and weight, but the weight is mostly fat. It was crazy watching them talk because they all were making hand motions. The short guy had really skinny arms, the second guy had really flabby arms, and of course Mr. Muscle had these gigantic firm muscle bound arms. He lats flared out, yet were completely relaxed, blocking one guy from view. The more he talked to other people the more I couldn't help but look. Hardly anyone in the room came up to his eye level, only a few people outweighed him and not in terms of muscle.

All the former high school athletes that still work out look tiny compared to him. They constantly ask him for work out advice. When he leaves the room, there is always a group of people that start talking about his size. Some are a bit jealous, and other are just in awe. When he walks, his upper body kind of swings back and forth as his arms move, the muscles on his legs press against his jeans, and instinctively when somebody calls his name, he looks down slightly. He told a short story about how in the military here actually weighed 250lbs of solid muscle, but had to cut back when he left and started feeding himself. To end my little observation, near the end of class a good deal of students were complaining about the work load of the course and lacking time due to working. The professor half jokingly said, "Just get a sugar mama or daddy and have them pay the bills." If Mr. Muscles got himself a sugar mama, he'd easily blow back up to 250, while staying ripped.
